I sorted out cover yesterday, but had to pay £40 for a week(I'm going Wednesday to Wednesday) Does this sound expensive to anyone else? I'm with Green Flag through Direct Line, who also do my car & home contents insurance. Martin.

We sorted out 4 day's cover with Britannia when we went to LM for the testing earlier this year - cost £17. Think a week's cover was about £25.

You should join the ACO Club 24. You get a large discount off of all your tickets, access to the ACO areas including the ACO stand (the tickets go quickly) and european breakdown cover.

From memory it costs about £50 for the year and if you buy two or three tickets, the discount covers the cost of joining. Bit of a no brainer really.

You can join off of the main Le Mans site.

I've done it for the last seven or eight years and it is very good.

Breakdown cover is a MUST! Fellow PHer MikeN Barbecued his Impreza Mclaren F1 style en route to Le Mans, near Calais, last year. If it hadn't been for AA 5 Star, his trip would have been over, and it would have cost him a mint to repatriate the car.

Alot of new cars and manufacturers extended warranties include good quality cover - read the small print in your documents before spending your hard-earned!

You may be able to get cheaper, but sounds similar to a lot of quotes that I had when phoning around. As the others have said, you would be kicking yourself if you thought you were being smart, took the gamble and something goes wrong.

£40 well spent for the peace of mind that you have someone reputable who will get you home.
