I'm coming from the Cherbourg peninsula through Falaise/Argentan etc (which vehicle to take - the Griff or a Sherman )

But the bloody map has 'E' numbers and 'A' numbers.

From Alencon there is a choice of a major looking road (A28/E402) and a paralel lesser one (N138).

Q1) Are the roads marked with 'E' numbers or is it bollox?

Q2) Big 'A' route or the ickle one?

your wisdom please

The "A" is the Autoroute- our version of the Motorway. You may or may not have to pay for using this. The route from Alencon to Le Mans IS a toll roaqd, but is smooth and empty. The "E" refers to a Euro route- the idea is that modern roads are the same quality whether they are in germany of France, and form part of the "Euroroute". Like I said they have to be good qualitty- probably why the Uk doesnt have any...

Have a look at www.autoroutes.fr for toll roads, prices etc
