Seems I didn’t miss much - went to grab some sleep just before the rain and woke up five minutes after we went green.
What’s the general consensus of opinion on the length of SC? Given they’d only just gone green when I tuned back in, it reminded me of those F1 races where they waited so long to go back racing that everyone went straight for inters (which they obviously don’t have here…)
Was it a case of an overly cautious safety car, and a procedure that took way too long to get restarted once it was deemed safe? Or was it utterly biblical rain that really justified 4 hours of SC running?
I don't think they could have gone green much earlier, certainly no more than about thirty minutes. What’s the general consensus of opinion on the length of SC? Think of the years where it was 2-3 laps between 1st and 2nd.
This is a great race…. In all classes.
And shows why the regulations at the moment are pretty good to have this standard of racing for 24hrs (even with the safety car session). This is a great race…. In all classes.
In two minds on that. Endurance racing should adapt to conditions. Ability to come in, raise ride height possibly, add downforce. Right tyres. Make wipers decent etc etc. slow down!
Teams just played to it years ago. Stayed on slicks, screaming it was dangerous until a safety car came out.
Having said that, I was asleep. Was it extreme rain last night?
