2024 Le Mans race thread
Discussion
Over 30 years ago my kids started cadet kart racing at Rye House. I took a stop watch to the track and timed the speed of the kid in last place. When my son could go that fast we entered for our first race. This plan worked out fine. He had someone to latch on to and race with.
After a while a new kid and dad came along to start racing, but he was so painfully slow, he couldn’t keep up with anybody, and got passed by the entire field. It was sad to watch. With the other dads, I talked about whether we should have a word with the dad to suggest he wasn’t doing the boy any favours, and might it not be a better idea to hold off bit until he could at least keep up with the slowest. But in the end, we didn’t, and decided it wasn’t our business.
This lad’s name was Oliver Jarvis. He is now leading LMP2 at Le Mans with 12 minutes to go.
