Been surfing the classifieds looking at LPG converted cars and have noticed a few saying LPG recorded on V5 so cheaper road tax paid.

Now i'm curious about this, its mainly Jeeps i've been looking at which i know have been retrofitted so how does this work? Is it 'post' 2001 only ie the 'new' tax bands? If so are pre 2001 stuck at £205?

Most important question i suppose is how much is LPG tax V standard?

Also, if i buy one that doesn't have the LPG on the V5 can i put it on and save cash?

I think it needs to be an "approved" fit?

As far as I know If you have the certificate from an LPGA installer you can get the V5 amended, you will receive a massive discount of £15 on your annual road tax.

I own 8 cars and vans running on LPG, all converted professionally with certificates, with conversion on the V5s and never got any discounts.
You can't even register for congestion charging exemption anymore, thieving TFL s...

I've just received my renewal for my '94 Defender that runs on LPG, tax is £205.
I thought they were exempt from congestion charge?

So obviously no effect on the pre 2001 tax rates?

It was never that easy, you had to have it converted by an approved garage, the car/van had to be on special list (not all the vehicles, even if converted properly were exempt), then you had to apply for a discount providing conversion certificate, V5 etc, pay £10 per year for an exemption and then if you were successful you were exempt after few weeks of waiting. And you had to reapply and resend the paperwork every year.

Now, all the vehicles which are already registered will be exempt until 2012, but you can not register any new vehicles after the 20th of Dec 2010.
