LPG Cars, cheaper road tax?
Discussion
Been surfing the classifieds looking at LPG converted cars and have noticed a few saying LPG recorded on V5 so cheaper road tax paid.
Now i'm curious about this, its mainly Jeeps i've been looking at which i know have been retrofitted so how does this work? Is it 'post' 2001 only ie the 'new' tax bands? If so are pre 2001 stuck at £205?
Most important question i suppose is how much is LPG tax V standard?
Also, if i buy one that doesn't have the LPG on the V5 can i put it on and save cash?

I thought they were exempt from congestion charge?
It was never that easy, you had to have it converted by an approved garage, the car/van had to be on special list (not all the vehicles, even if converted properly were exempt), then you had to apply for a discount providing conversion certificate, V5 etc, pay £10 per year for an exemption and then if you were successful you were exempt after few weeks of waiting. And you had to reapply and resend the paperwork every year. Now, all the vehicles which are already registered will be exempt until 2012, but you can not register any new vehicles after the 20th of Dec 2010.
