...I have just converted my BMW to gas. BRC system. LPG fitters fitted 73 litres into the 80 litre tank. I did 80 miles since then and tried to fill up. Could not fit anything in.
Did a further 60 miles (and lost two of the four green led's on the gauge) and tried filling up again to no avail. Still nothing would go in.
Put another 30 miles on it, tried again and fit in £1. Is it likely I have a problem, a pessimistic fuel gauge or is it normal on a new tank not being able to full unless almost empty??

yep. tried at two garages and get a few pence in. other people have checked and confirmed all is ok with nozzle!I run my BMW on gas and I have never had this problem; mine's an OMVL system, but I'm pretty sure you have a -minor- fault. BTW, the LED gauge is pretty useless in my experience; I've got used to resetting my trip counter whenever I fill up, and start to think about refilling at 200 miles. You should get more, as my tank is 60 ltr (with a 4.4 V8).

Its a 80 litre cyclinder tank. Done a further 40 miles and used no more gas (according to the gauge on the tank and dash). Maybe its just totally inaccurate!Edited by wildatheart on Wednesday 28th April 07:17
Sounds like a dodgy pressure valve in the tank to me. They are supposed to stop you filling the tank above 80%. Run it till it is completely empty and try again...

Ah, this might explain why my experience with LPG cars is that you can never get the full use of the tank capacity eg if the tank says it is 50 litres, when I run it empty and then go back and fill it full with lpg the pump only puts in 40 litres;
So LPG users, do you also have this problem you only use 80-90% of the tank capacity when you fill it full?

You will normally only get 80% of actual capacity into the tank - eg if the tank is 80 litres nominal then expect to get in about 64 litres actual from empty before the tank shut off valve operates
The LED gauge gizmos are generally a waste of time. Run to empty, fill. Zero trip, run to empty. Note trip reading. Each time you fill - fill to pump cut-out (as in display stops counting) - just remember to zero the trip.
If you experience problems, having just had it converted, take it back. I do think there may be a problem as if you were on gas for the distances you say I would expect to get rather more than £1 worth in. That the gauge on the tank is not moving suggests that you aren't running on LPG at all.

I have had it recently converted and have done about 2k on the conversion. No problems other than the electronic autolube system is drinking slightly more than it should so will be adjusted shortly.I found a place who installed the filler in the petrol pump area so it's not visible from the outside. I had a 100l tank fitted in the boot which does take some space but not a huge amount as the tank fits in quite well.
I did look into spare wheel tanks but the range would be so short I was strongly advised against it. I also have bose in there which would have needed rehoused. The ideal solution which I have seen offered would be a spare wheel tank and a cylinder tank in the boot as well for huge range but as it stands I can fill the 100l tank to about 80l which gives me a range of 220 - 230 miles. MPG as far as I can tell is not significantly different. The pickup and perfomance is not noticable. I did spend a fair bit of cash on a top install and have twin condensors. Each condensor is rated up to 350hp so it can easily flow enough gas as they are not at the top of their rating.
I'm very happy with the setup. The only slight downside is some loss of space in the boot and I can't really put the seats down and have a flat load in there but I can live with that for the reduced fuel bills

Have to agree - it took me a while to get used to mine but it sounds like the OP has some sort of problem with his gauge too. I've lent my LPG cars to several mates and none have managed to fill it first time by themselves.
My Prins system worked fine and the lights used to count down fine and then beep when empty. I used to fill up wherever I saw LPG so often filled only half a tank at a time and had no issues (I had a silly 45l 'donut' type tank so pretty low range on a car doing 25mpg - my only regret was not sacrificing the boot space for a proper tank).
Update!
Done another 80 miles. Went from half empty (on the gauge) to quarter then back to half. I have concluded the gauge is crap!
Up to 250 miles on the tank now, so will run today then fill up tomorrow when it is surely empty.
If I cannot get anything in then I will concede I have a problem.
