Popped into the Rivian store Boston. Didn’t expect to see the R2, yet, but impressive fit and finish on the rest of the range. The pre production reviews on uTube have been very good including Mat Watson. It’s coming to UK in 2027 and fills a space in the rugged SUV market with solid performance and range. Have to say it would get me out of the model Y.

They look absolutely mega. Shame no 7 seat or jump seat option but I suppose it would steal sales in the US. If there was a new car that floated my boat it would be one of these. I expect it to be super dear when it lands over here.

If MW rates this over a model Y, then it must be bloody good, he's one of the few reviewers who doesn't let prejudice of the tesla brand affect his reviews.

I think it’s gonna be a big hit. About the right size and range and price.

MW is a clown! I wouldn't trust his reviews as far as I could throw him.

I do like the look of the Rivians though and think they'd do well in Europe. All the Chinese manufacturers might put a dent in their potential sales though.

I too like the design language of Rivian. Do they have the capacity to supply Europe?

The R2 is seriously impressive. It plays to the greatest strengths of BEV and adopts the benefits of everything the R1 has achieved in real world use.

I expect that before it's widely sold in Europe, and especially before it reaches the UK... a very similar spec vehicle will emerge from the China/South Korea and take the sales in our part of the world. It's an almost perfect package and its bound to be replicated.

My first BEV was an iPace and I loved it because it did everything I could desire. It was a drivers car on demand, it was a luxury car, it had a huge load space with the rear seats folded, it was fast, it was efficient, it could go off-road, it could wade. The R2 is the first car since the iPace that I'm seriously interested in smile

Best of luck to Rivian as a brand in general, but I do think that whatever they design/innovate/prove will soon enough be effortlessly replicated in the East and sold back to the West.

I like Rivian as a brand and their products are good. But they never really bothered with the UK, despite a big launch and lots of words at the FOS a few years ago.

So, i'm not sure these will be produced for the UK in big numbers, if we even see one at all. I'd like to be proved wrong though.

The R2 does look very good.

There are a few EV's around now which are not currently available in the UK, which we need here !

Maybe they haven't bothered with Europe before because the existing line-up is too big for our roads and public parking spaces. Let's hope this smaller car comes across to Europe in both left and right hand drive versions.

They have said that the R1 was domestic but the R2 is for worldwide.

The EU version is easy enough but the UK/Aus will be an additional hurdle because of RHD... At best that means we'll have to wait for it, at worst it means we'll ever get it at all biggrin

My biggest concern with Rivian or Chinese EVs is parts supply. Consumables etc. My Smart #1 Is a case in point. There is a known failing where a panel between the top of the windscreen and the pan roof that cracks in multiple places. It has taken them 12 months to fix under warranty. Outside it will be hugely expensive.

Look on the bright side: if we have to wait until the LHD versions are in Europe, it means some of the inevitable build issues will be sorted when we get them!

Seems they don’t have all the software perfect in their own vehicles. Surprised VW bought some off the them.

Software is fixable, also VW's own software/infotainment is relatively poor compared to rivals and probably no better than Rivian right now. Hard to compare accurately because both are in a constant state of being updated.

Would love one of these but I’m a bit sceptical of dealer support when it comes to servicing and the like.

Saw an R1 (LHD obviously) on the road in Guildford last week. Great looking thing, different enough to stand out. It was big but it didn't look outrageously so.
Hopefully the R2 does make it to the UK. Would certainly stand out in the crowd of blob like suv we currently have....

Noooo
Someone has a Rivian R1 in UK. I’m a bit jealous of that.
