Are EVs banned from airports??

Just tried to book my Taycan in at Manchester airport for an upcoming trip and I get an email within 24 hours cancelling my booking as you car is on a disallowed list. It was the multi story.

WTF??? I recall a fire at an airport a while back but wasn t that a diesel car??

My friend is ATC and drives a leaf, so no problem for him parking it in the airport 5 days a week.

No, booked my EV for on airport parking at East Midlands. Other airports may vary?

We flew from Manchester in early Sept. Used their.meet and greet parking at T2 without any issues in our etron and collected it from the ground floor of a multi storey on our return.

Could only guess it’s the gross weight limit of the vehicle

The answer would appear to be that no, EVs aren't banned from airports.

Vehicles above a certain weight are banned from certain specific multi-storey car parks, generally older ones which weren't designed with modern cars in mind and may not safely hold their weight.

I'm sure there are other car parks at the airport you can use.

2140kg is my kerb weight. So is that too heavy for a multi story? I thought the one at Manchester T1 was quite new

My Polestar 4 was in the T2 multi-storey for 10 days at the end of last month. I assume it’s as heavy as a Taycan. You also always see loads of EVs in that car park.

We have had instances where the multi-storey just hasn’t came up on the list, though I’ve always assumed it was either due to the terminal we were flying from, or just simple lack of spaces.

What's the max gross weight?

Gross weight is 2.8 tonnes so I think that would exceed T1 max weight per vehicle

"The T1 Multi-Storey Car Park is not suitable for vehicles over 2.5 tonnes fully laden."

I'm surprised the sign doesn't say "any newer and relatively expensive car", because that scabby covered car park looks like it's about to fall on any car parked in it.

If that was my destination a swift risk assessment would scream park outside.

imo its only a matter of time really .. insurance costs are going up ..if EVs are included ..
one more fire like luton and it be all over for parking .. insurance to cover will be astinomical .. one house insurance policy quote we recieved had a disclaimer that evs , electric bikes / scooters not to be parked in integral garages !
