I'm looking at a lease for the family car and the Capri is at quite an attractive price. There's not much out there from real owners, though. Are there any owners on here who could share their opinions of the car (or for that matter I guess Explorer owners too)?

I can't offer any direct experience, but when I first read up on the car I lost a little interest when I realised it was developed on the VW MEB platform, which has imo delivered generally dull to drive and slightly underpowered cars. It's all relative of course, ten years ago the dual motor Capri would have been considered a pretty quick car! But EV has somewhat moved the goalposts on what speed/power is easily achieved using an electric motor, and subsequently what drivers are getting used to and expecting.

If it's an amazing lease deal then that's probably going to be sufficient reason to get one - although I'd be surprised if you couldn't get more car/more of a fun car from other manufacturers for the same sort of lease cost...

Have you sat in one? I quite liked it, albeit no manual controls for the air con.

If it had a different name it would probably sell better, bizarrely. Such a weird decision from Ford.

It didn't seem to hurt the Puma's sales. The things are everywhere!

Not of the Capri per se, however I've had its sister the Explorer for 8 months (Readers Car link here - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

In short, very impressed, nothing's gone wrong, it's efficient (around 3 mi/kWh in winter, > 4 now the weather's improved) so genuine 300+ mile range, comfortable, and handles nicely (RWD). If the Capri was called a Mondeo or Sierra, I don't think so many eyelids would be batted!

The Mustang Mach-E is comfortably out-selling the ICE Mustang, so despite the whinging (mostly from people who weren't going to buy an EV anyway), it did work pretty well for them there.

Because the ICE Mustang is a very niche vehicle, if they were the same with different drivetrain then it would be a relevant discussion.

Yeah we’ve sat in one and the whole family liked it. The reviews actually praise the way it drives for the most part and it’s cheap so, name aside, it fits the bill.

It’s mainly going to be a school run car with the odd slightly longer family jaunt at weekends, so being honest none of it matters too much.

On the name thing, I’m just a little too young to have ever owned a Capri the first time around. Porsche managed to label their EVs as ‘Turbo’ so I don’t really care one way or another myself, though I understand the ire of the die-hard fast Ford lot.

A friend has had the Mach-E long range for 3 years now and loves it, except his wife says the suspension is a little stiff for her comfort. Has started looking at the Capri as a replacement and they feltthe same about the suspension, but he's also looking at other cars such as the BYD sealion

It's the '80s kit car proportions that put me off more than the name reuse. To be honest the Capri wasn't that cool first time around!

As an 80s child I always thought the Capri looked rubbish! Much preferred the xr3i.

I do like the look of the new Capri in yellow though!
