Ohme just ruined IO for us all

So just had an email from Ohme basically saying i have to set a "ready to go" time between 4-11am.
"We're making some changes to your 'ready by' time options.
You'll notice this change from 27th February.
Here's what you need to know:
? You’ll now only be able to choose a ‘ready by’ time between 4am and 11am
? This is to ensure you have a smooth charging experience
? If you need to charge during the daytime, you’ll need to Max Charge instead"
If you want to charge during the day you now HAVE to max charge at peak rate!!! So what is the point of IO now if you own an Ohme charger? Just called Ohme and they are claiming it is an Octopus directive. I mentioned my day tomorrow.
Leave house 0630 and drive about 100 miles. get home about 10am and then need to drive to Heathrow at 1830 - round trip of 190 miles so i need the car at 100% I can't set the charger to have it ready by 1800 as above; i now have to set 0400 and it will CLEARLY charge during the night. They have said "well it will still might charge during smart charging windows during the day" - utter BS.

Email from Ohme, realised it said Octopus in my opening post - corrected it now - so assume its only their chargers. However they've said its a directive from Octopus so perhaps they are saying the same to zappi etc?? I will keep an eye on my inbox.

I guess it's because too many people were taking the mick and putting in earlier ready by times in the hope of getting cheap rates during usually peak times
Charging at 27p at home is still going to be cheaper than using public chargers though

I don't think it is 'taking the mickey'.
Surplus electricity happens all the time.
And Octopus usually sets a charging schedule for you.
FWIW, Octopus controls my Zappi, not my car.

Fair enough doing it, but you arent guaranteed cheap charging at peak times, just hopeful you get someI don't think it is 'taking the mickey'.

This, there's loads of posts on social media about people gaming the system to get cheap rates during the day. It would be interesting to know how much data Ohme have access to - I suspect there's loads of cars having a 9pm departure time set, that then don't get used until the following morning.I guess it's because too many people were taking the mick and putting in earlier ready by times in the hope of getting cheap rates during usually peak times
I can't think of a single occasion where I've done 150 miles in the morning then returned home and needed to do 200 miles 7 hours later, so very much doubt it'll impact me at all. I just set my departure time from 7:30am every day and leave the charger to it.

The 'ready by' constraint of 0400-1100 was always in place for other charging integrations as mentioned above.

My departure time is always set to 0900, so wouldn’t affect my current pattern.
They can still give you cheap stuff outside of these times, if it suits them?
Eg 0900 departure, mine often charges outside of the defined cheap period.
Looks like that won’t change.

TBF the whole "early departure time" thing has been gamed by a lot of people for a while now, so I'm unsurprised that this has happened. If anything I'm surprised it's taken so long.
I have, from the start, just set charge requirement to 80% and departure time to 0700hrs - plug in late afternoon or early evening and let Octopus and Ohme figure it out. I almost always get a few extra hours at the cheap rate, and the car is always ready when I need it.
Trying to screw the system to get 15 hours cheap electricity a day seems a little naughty to me, and I don't blame them for this rule change.

I've just been talking about this very thing on x. I sometimes (a few times a year) need to leave the house at 3am with a full charge. As others have stated this appears to be bringing this in line with others. For people who work nights for example this would have a major effect. The other problem i have is no way to tell my car not to use power from my batteries (solar setup). So it will deplete my battery before taking from the grid. I could work around this before through various methods. I won't be able to moving forward

Agree. OI only gives you 6 hours cheap rate at night - at least that is all they promise you. Sometimes OI will let you take advantage of cheap rates during the day, but lots of people gaming the system have seemingly stopped this "perk". The favourite used to be - Jaguar I-Pace (90 kWh battery)
- three-pin charger
- ramped down to the minimum selectable current (6A or so, so 1.4 kW)
So a potential 58 hours in which to cook your roast dinner, do laundry, dishwasher etc ;-)
Obv Jaguar no longer support IO directly, but that's the sort of optimisation people have talked about.
When I read about that I presumed that there would eventually be some steps to limit the exploitation of the cheap rate, not totally surprised.
