Polestar 2 ride quality - std vs Performance Pack?

My current daily is a Citroen e-C4, whose 60 profile tyres and soft suspension agreeably disregard our broken road surfaces, but whose motorway range leaves quite a bit to be desired.

Early (2020-21) Polestar 2 Dual Motors are now widely available below £20k, and look to be as quick & long range as a Jag I-Pace but with far fewer tales of battery woe. However the ride quality of the Polestar is variably described as 'firm', 'tetchy' or 'downright uncomfortable'.

My question is whether there's a clear winner for ride comfort between the standard setup on 19" wheels, and the Performance Pack with lower suspension, 20" wheels and adjustable Ohlins dampers? Or to put it another way, can the inherent quality of the Ohlins, and ability to adjust towards the softer end of the range, outweigh the stiffer springs and larger wheels?

Any other Polestar buying advice is welcome, they look like pretty attractive value for money right now.

Can’t comment on the difference between Standard v Ohlins suspension, but I have had a dual motor long range since 2021 and have covered just over 105k miles.

It’s been pretty much flawless until the last few thousand miles where a failing 12v battery has let it down. Absolute pain trying to find a Volvo garage in the midlands with a qualified EV technician….

Anyway, company car, reliable 200-250 mile range even in cr@p weather. Suspension is fine, it’s comfy but firm, well damped, no real issue on potholes roads. Obviously goes like a rocket.

Goes back in June, be very happy to have the same again, probably give the Polestar 4 a go.

Great car, no issue recommending.

I’ve got a 24 SMLR, suspension isn’t as firm as 3 series MSport, and doesn’t feel overly firm. If concerned make sure you get the 19” wheels.

The early cars certainly had more compliant suspension first year at least. The Ohlins performance pack models are definitely better than the current standard cars on bigger wheels though adjustable it's something you'll need to do over a weekend readily adjustable they are not.

Thanks for all the feedback and the general positivity about the car, seems like a bit of a bargain.

^ never mind about being sensible, have just put a deposit to buy a 2020 with the Performance Pack.

On the brief test drive it just felt good, and not too harsh over bumps.

It's possible I may end up putting the FC04 19" wheels on (one of the few 19" designs known to barely clear the PP brakes) for a little extra sidewall.

Looking forward to it! The car needs two new front top mounts and a TCAM battery, so have to go pick it up sometime in the coming week.

Good choice! It looks like it's got all packs and leather? The performance upgrade makes it a bit more fun if it hasn't already got it.
