I'm in the market for an EV, as I've given up justifying any type of ICE is suitable for my needs. I currently drive a '16 XC60 D5 AWD and whilst comfortable, is far too unnecessary for my daily use.

The house I live in came with an EV charger, so I'm all set in that regard.

I'm really quite blown away with Renault's line-up of late. They are, subjectively, are some of the more better looking EV's on the market at the moment. Albeit, I still can't help being drawn toward the Cupra Tavascan, which I think is stunning.

Anyhow, the Scenic E-Tech really ticks a lot of boxes from what I need from a car. It's a mid-sized SUV, loaded with tech as standard, heat pump as standard, long-range battery and seems like it's plenty big for a family of three.

Leaseloco have a deal of £1,546.68 down, with £257.78 for 23 months, for 6k miles a year. This is for the Techno trim and 87kWh Long Range battery.

Has anyone had any negative experiences with these? My general drawbacks from what I've seen is the lower-than-normal seat position and questionable light-coloured cloth seats, which might spell disaster coupled with kids. Plus it only comes in FWD.

Read plenty of mediocre reviews of the new Cupra but nothing but positive reviews for the Scenic, I know where my money for the lease would go.

I love our Scenic Iconic. I'd argue that it's not an SUV, though. I'm 178cm tall, and it's probably 20cm lower than me. Not the most exciting car to drive, but that's not why we have it, and consequently, FWD is inconsequential. The seat height takes very little time to adapt to.

Soon to be replaced by an R5 because I love that more. smile

Weuse it for town driving, shopping and bimbling. YMMV.

Relative has the Scenic.
Probably the best EV value for money-wise
Excellent range even in winter
Base model has a lot of features like heated steering and heated seats
Can also be found for just over £290 on 23+1, 5000 miles.
Reviews as well are very good.

I had some problems with my Zoe which needed a new motor, it was covered under warranty but the issue it exposed was availability of dealer service departments.

Both Renault dealers local to home and work couldn’t look at it to diagnose for nearly a month after my second Electric Motor failure warning in the dash.

Putting my oar in because we’ve got a lease order in.

I reckon it looks great and the big battery makes it fine for pretty much all our possible uses.

Will update as we go through the process.

This is one of the reasons I'm drawn toward the Scenic and Renault in general. They seem to offer so much, for a very appealing price. And their designs have put to bed any previous opinions I had, where I wasn't a fan of any French car design in previous years.

We test drove a Scenic, but unfortunately we couldn't go EV this time around. Otherwise it was a fantastic car. Definitely one of the best EVs around

test drove one recently. Very impressive. Steering is much better in the firm/sport setting

Funny what you say about the seat height. I'm 6'2" and sat in an iconic with electric seats in a dealer. I couldn't get the seat low enough. My eyeline was the top of the windscreen. I had to stoop to see out properly. If I put the sun visor down , I couldn't see anything.
Ended up with a lightly used I4 instead (my first EV and I'm totally converted)

I’ve just ordered one in Iconic trim on lease which will hopefully be delivered in March. The negatives that I’ve come across are:
  • horrible and huge key fob with no option to use Apple digital key
  • poor resolution rear view camera
  • passenger side front charging port is probably the worst location. I prefer to reverse in but even driving forward into Tesla chargers, it will be on the ‘wrong’ side. Unusually, the left hand drive versions have the charging port on the other side. Most EVs I’ve seen so far have the charging port in the same location regardless of market
  • no head up display in any version
  • no passenger side electric seat adjustment on any version
  • flaky app
All of these are minor and I think the positives way outnumber them and remember it did win Car Of The Year 2024

I think they are great, I would have ordered one on salary sacrifice but the dog crate didn't fit. Boot wasn't deep enough. Ended up with an ID7 tourer, which is a more traditional estate, but I'd rather have had the Renault tbh

I had a look at the ID7; definitely the best of all the IDs. There were some great lease deals but by the time extras were added on that I wanted the figures didn’t work for me. And more practically….it didn’t fit on the drive! But I won’t mention the ridiculous ‘REAR’ button for the rear windows.

We had that trying to fit a small dog cage under EVs parcel shelves and finding it not possible in most. Oddly (as it’s quite a small car) it fitted fine in a Volvo EX30 as that has a deep boot.

We're also looking at the Techno long-range on lease. Can't see if that comes with heated seats, if anyone can help. Not adding options on a lease!
But also don't want the Esprit with its 20in wheels (prefer smaller wheels. Even 19ins on the Techno are too much)

Heated seats as standard on the Techno.

Heated steering wheel too.

I think the only things you're missing from the Iconic range is the (quite impressive) panoramic roof. Smart rear-view mirror (You still get a rear view camera as standard), 360 camera, electronically adjustable front seats and handsfree parking.

Completely agree on the wheel size too, it's oddly why I see the Techno as bit more befitting to my needs. I'd happily take 18's, but if 19's is all they do, I certainly won't opt for anything bigger.

As I say, I'm very impressed by what it offers as standard, including a heat pump.

I also don’t think you get the same hifi in the Tecnho? I really like cars with a light airy interior which was one of the reasons I went for the Iconic but my test drives were in a Techno and it was all good.

They’ve announced a price cut so the long range version starts at £37k now, down from £41k.

This segment is quite competitive with the EV3/Elroq/scenic, and the Scenic now seems like the best value of them all (especially with a standard heat pump).

I like the E scenic, just don’t crash it as there has been 1 parked up at the Renault dealers I deliver to waiting for parts for well over a month, both with front end light damage.
Like many new cars, parts take some time to come through the supply chain.

The big shiny wheels annoyed me the Megane / Scenic when we looked at EVs. I don't like living with them anyway, but I don't get it at all on EVs, as there's quite an efficiency hit with big wheels.
