I'm probably not due to get a new daily driver for a couple of years yet, but was thinking a used Model 3 would suit my needs perfectly.

Recently however, with Musks increasingly bizarre behaviour and especially his interference with UK politics, I'm seriously considering what others would think about me if I drove one of these cars. I wouldn't want the negative connotations associated with this lunatic.

I know many of you probably don't care what others think of you, and I also thought that of myself until recently. For instance I've no hang ups about driving cars from "lesser" brands, and I'm certainly no badge snob, but this is different. I know some of you may even think it's a good thing as there are no doubt some Tommy Robinson type supporters on this forum (we are a broad church on PH, both in terms of car preference and politically).

For me though, it's making me reconsider my options. I'll probably stick with a PHEV and go for a G20 BMW 330e.

Does anyone else feel this way, or is it just me?

I suppose strictly, it's not *just* Musk that is putting me off - the touchscreen, spartan interior, lower build quality and somewhat bland looks are also factors.

YES. Closely followed in second place by touchscreen everything / no physical buttons.

Looking for a new car, partic an EV but Tesla definitely ruled out. Shame.

No. I buy a car because of what it is as a car. It’s not a fashion statement or associating myself with any particular tribe.

I agree with your view. I used to quite fancy a Tesla and five years ago they were top of the list for when I finally decide to ha=wad down the EV route. Now firmly at the bottom amd would never consider owning one due to the nutter.

Don’t think I’ve ever considered what other people will think of me when buying a car and I’d quite happily drive a Tesla if it was the right car for me.

I think I might be shallow though and it’s similar to my taste in music. I listen to the music I like and don’t drill too deeply into the people behind the music… biggrin

Rather than what people think of me it’s probably more feeding his pocket or ego which would put me off.

But in any case it also depends how it compares to competitors. Ultimately it’s a white goods car so any alternative is unlikely to be much different.

He may want to be careful. I expect the demographic who are most likely to buy electric and those most taken by his endless inane bks aren’t particularly aligned.

Would never consider any electric car TBH, but if for some reason I lost my mind and did, I agree Musk would put me off a Tesla, but things like USA build quality etc are also a huge negative

It would and it did.
I had to pick an EV company car and didn’t even look at the Tesla because I don’t want to have anything to do with lining the pockets of Elon.
So I have a Polestar, and when asked by a colleague why I chose it I said it was because I’m generally anti Elon… he agreed and has also ordered a polestar.
I’d rather have an engine, but if it must be an EV I don’t intend to end up in a Tesla.

I’m the other way, I’m no EV fan to say the least but the right wing politics now leave me highly conflicted… laugh

Maybe his master plan is to get idiots into EVs.

For many reasons, but especially because of Elon Musk, I would not buy a Tesla.

Do you think some people might if they still were?

I don’t think he would would put me off buying one, however if I wanted an ev it would be the last ev I would consider and even then I would never buy one.

I wouldn't buy one before he became a megaloon, definitely pleased now with how he behaves that I never got brainwashed into buying these overpriced washing machines.
