Simpson & Partners EV Charger - Anyone got one?
Discussion
Yep, I’m happy with it.
The first one they sent me had a problem, they dealt with it extremely well, sent out a replacement unit and paid for the labour to have it replaced. On the customer service side I was very happy with them.
Happy to try and help with any specific questions you have.

I have one; I would 100% go for tethered; it just makes life easier, also get the hook.
We went for the nine-meter cable so we didn't have to move the cars around to charge.
As you highlighted, they don't support any intelligent tariffs yet.
All in all, it has been very easy to use, with no problems so far

They look fantastic, but a bit of history might be useful; they're from the same people who started Andersen. Andersen then went into administration.
I believe Simpson & Partners also recently entered administration? There wasn't mention of that fact when I went on their website a couple of weeks back and they continued to trade, but recent reviews on TrustPilot frequently mentioned delayed deliveries.
For me, that was enough of a scare to go with an alternative as I assumed they might be struggling to pay suppliers, hence struggling to get products manufactured and shipped. I understand the risk is that the "smart" functions of the charger may cease to work if the company goes under and its servers aren't maintained.
Things may have changed more recently, but they were certainly in administration a few weeks back.
Edit: Just had a quick search and it looks like the assets of the company have been purchased and a new Ltd Company name set up. Not sure on the detail (and not qualified to understand what that means), but still probably a bit too much of a risk for me.

Thanks for responding. It looks fantastic and I hear full Octopus compatibility is coming.
Main question i had was did you go tethered or untethered?
I went untethered, but only becuase my wife was adamant that she wouldn’t put up with a cable when the car wasn’t being charged….. It does let you lock the cable if you go untethered initially and want to have a permanently attached cable later.Main question i had was did you go tethered or untethered?
Sorry to hear that they’ve gone into administration, but I haven’t noticed any issues. I’m
I too have one.
Had it about eighteen months now. They are beautifully finished, but the weak point is the tethered cable, which is not of the same quality as the actual charger unit. The plug is very prone to leaks and then corrodes internally - I have been through two under warranty. S&P, as another poster said, sent out replacements swiftly but I had to pay an electrician to change the cable each time.
The third one failed a couple of weeks ago, and I have now purchased a much better cable from EV Extras, and had my electrician fit that.
I had an Andersen previously at my old house and, although larger, I would go back to one in an instant as the cable is much better and winds up inside the casing. The Andersen had full smart functionality as well.
I see that Andersen are back now under new ownership, and I suspect S&P will go the same way.

I've had my Andersen for over 5 years, charging 4 EVs that have done c.125k miles betwen them, mostly charging at home. It still works perfectly, looks great and the app is very regularly updated.Had it about eighteen months now. My brother in law just had an Ohme fitted for free and he said how cheap it looks and feels in comparison to my Andersen.
They may be pricey, but you get what you pay for and they even come with a 7 year warranty now.
