Granny charger so the selectable amp and 10m cable
Discussion
My Wife is getting a electric car soon
She does less than 100 miles a week, so we are not planning on getting a dedicated charger installed as we are not planning on staying here for long - side note we have a science park with ample cheapish chargers next to our house if we do need a quicker full charge
I’d like a granny lead with selectable amps as I want to charge at 6 or 8 amps rather than the max 10
Any suggestions
I’m also on look out for a Kia or Hyundai granny lead as I see these are selectable amp
I’m trying to avoid random internet cheapo stuff as I’ve seen some that you can worryingly select 13 and even 16amp for a three pin domestic socket
Many thanks

Firstly, are you sure the car is not supplied with granny and type 2 charger cables?
If you're not confident your electric installation can handle a sustained 10A, you should probably get it checked as there's no other reason to step down to 8A or 6A.
This Masterplug granny charger seems to be the usual recommended model.

I am glad to see your not planning to use a rollup extension cable. The 16a options are most like for our European cousins. Thu 10a 2.2kw is 10-12hour weekly thu you don’t say what Ev. This is already well under 13a /3kw so a good margin safety. Unless there is another reason I have missed? The charging can be managed from the car in most cases.

Cheers, yes the car has a granny in the boot, not switchable If you're not confident your electric installation can handle a sustained 10A, you should probably get it checked as there's no other reason to step down to 8A or 6A.

I am a worrier at heart, should probably man up
The master plug one does look good, but it’s not switchable amps

Can you not set the max charge rate from the car? I haven't tried on our current EVs, but my wife's e-Golf she had previously could be set to a number of limits, I think right down to 3A.She does less than 100 miles a week, so we are not planning on getting a dedicated charger installed as we are not planning on staying here for long - side note we have a science park with ample cheapish chargers next to our house if we do need a quicker full charge

This. Both my Model 3 (5-16A in 1A increments) and the wife’s Passat GTE (5, 10, 13, 16A) can be limited from both the car and the mobile app. No need to change it from the charger.A friend recommended this one before I had a home charger fitted.
It also has a delay which is good for controlling tariff costs (though you can do this in the car too).

I'm using this one until my charger is installed, doesn't do 6A but does do 8A.

This! (as others have said)We used a granny charger on our BMW i4 until we got another charger installed and it was very easy to set the max charge rate either in the car or on the phone using the app,
the worst part was having to run the cable through an open window (which needed to be left open all night) to reach the nearest usable socket, so an outdoor socket would be useful.
I also found that charging at the highest level worked fine anyway, and didn't create any issues with the socket barely getting warm.
