Hey everyone,
I had the opportunity to drive the all new Ford Explorer EV through in Edinburgh. For those unaware it is VW iD4 based, the main evidence that I seen was the lack of rear window switches up front. Instead you have to tap a button then press the front window switch to control the rear (a little bit of extra work but I am sure it saves a penny).
Ride wise it was fairly decent, pretty much on par with other crossovers of this size. The one I drove was circa £48,000, it had the pano roof etc.
I quite like the sliding central screen, I guess this will help with glare?

I've got one coming on Tuesday on a SS lease, glad to here your positive comments as I've not seen one, let alone driven one!

I'll start a Readers Ride thread when I get it.

What sort of costs are these coming out at on your work SS scheme?

Don't leave us hanging OP. Was it the 2WD or 4WD model, what did it steer/drive/handle like?

That seems pretty reasonable

Thank you. I presume the £475/month is net of tax?

And the great news is that, assuming you’re a UK tax payer, you’re subsidising it. smile

The thick end of £500 a month on a car?? That's nuts.

But it's not, the "thick end of £500 a month" covers all of the following along with the car;

Free home charger (amortised to £20/month over the contract, and will be kept by us at the end of the contract)
Insurance (£40/month for myself and my wife)
Servicing, maintenance & repairs (Currently paying £30/month)
Roadside assistance (Say £10/month)
4,000 miles of free energy
Discounted energy tariff (6p/Kw overnight) (works out at £12.50/month for 10k)
No Petrol (10k @40mpg = 250 gallons = 1,135 litres = £1,589 per annum = £132/month)

Which works out as just over £250/month for the car, not quite "The thick end of £500 a month on a car"

Is that the actual cost on the scheme, or are you estimating it?

We normally pay buttons for insurance but EV quotes are coming in around £700.

Are you comparing quotes for vehicles of similar performance and price though? Most EVs are considerably quicker (and more expensive) than a typical dull family crossover, and quotes will inevitably reflect that increased performance.

I've been getting quotes for a Mustang mach-e lately, it's certainly more expensive than our current Kia Sportage, but then at almost double the power, 300kg heavier and 50% higher list price, it's not hugely surprising the quotes are more.

We ran a quote through the meerkats, based on the car and 1 fault claim.

Benefits of being in our 50s, with full NCD and living in a village up North.

We’re in rural Cheshire, very low rated area. 60’s, no claims. It jumped up a lot this year and shopping around didn’t help.

Fully aware, since one of my own vehicles is via salary sacrifice.
