Tried this in the VW forum but very quiet down there so giving it a go here too....

Hi everyone, looking for a new family car, whilst at the VW garage looking at the 5 and the 7 they had a buzz in the showroom.
Always loved the way these things looked and I can see they would be great for us for family duties (short range aside).

I'm surprised how well they are holding their price compared to the rest of the EV world.
Do they already have a bit of a cult following?

One thing that worries me about a nearly new EV is the depreciation but if the buzz is resisting that particular curve it could be a shrewd purchase....?

I've read the reviews understand the quirks but somehow love it all the same!

Compare a Buzz with the California on price, suddenly seems more reasonable.

No not a cult classic.
List price circa £70K, big discounts at dealers, you can get a lightly used one for under £40K so avoid depreciation I don’t think so.
Massive, slow, inefficient and old tech. Software is still poor and the ergonomics crap, poorly packaged, etc etc. but hey ho looks great rotate

Seen some ridiculous PCP deposit contributions on used ones through VW, upto £7200. They either can’t shift them or they are at least £7200 overpriced to start with.

1st edition list price was around £65k right? And it's hard to find one for under £45k (well at least a 2 tone one). Compared to the depreciation on a taycan or an id3 it's pretty slow.

Obviously will depreciate more, but slower than other EV?

Don’t forget the two tone paint was/is a near £3000 option pushed the 1st edition list up to over £66K plus OTR so mighty close to £70K. You try getting a trade bid for one at more than £35K now. I call that a fairly vicious depreciating asset.

I'd be in the market for an EV that can take a motorcycle. But the pathetic middle screen and dashboard in the Buzz, for the price.. no. Tesla should make a van with removable seats.

That may be true, but it hasn't stopped the old air cooled buses being valuable cult classics!

This won’t be though. Think more iPhone 3G. People paying over the odds and importing when new, now about a tenner on eBay and borderline useless.

By all means get one if it suits your needs now, but we are the stage where they’re will always be a better EV around the corner.

Get better and better offers in these all the time, and the fact that VW are incentivising used as well as new sales shows the level of desperation.

Likely all VWFS end of term returns that have cost VWFS a fortune in residuals being massively the wrong way and now there are hundreds, possibly more, stuck in a field somewhere that just aren't shifting.

Easily the coolest EV out there but the 1st edition that I sat in was even more AliExpress than most cars these days. I couldn’t care less about the screen, I’ve used it in other ID products, but the interior was really low rent. I believe they have lifted the quality since, though. Maybe the latest GTX is better with more power and perhaps more battery as well.

I was very tempted by 0% on USED ID5 a few weeks back but just didn't have time to research it properly...

The rear seats in a supermini are more versatile. Utterly ridiculous lost opportunity. I'd like to drive a first edition Renault Espace into VW's design studio and make them hold every design meeting seated in the back of it. Idiots.

Wife has had hers for well over a year, done something like 20k miles in it.
Done endless long trips (of over 350 miles a day).

She absolutely loves hers, very practical, much more spacious inside than a SUV, and similar size outside.
Massive low flat boot, fits two big dog crates with ease.

Hers is a two tone first edition, cost £66k, I’v seen a few on trade only sites, 1 year old etc for £44k.
So hers has probably lost £28k in 16 or so months - £1,750 a month eek

Only issue with hers is the vegan steering wheel leather has fallen apart (common problem).

The packaging is weirdly bad. It's as though building on the MEB platform drove various poor choices - it's not really a van just a SUV with a van shaped shell draped over it. It's as long as our T5 California beach but with substantially less interior flexibility or space.

Seem popular with the "warm" trades and Mitie Group seem to have a fleet. Should be some bargains on auction at 2 years old.

Sorry should have said used ones. Must be hard work shifting them!
