I am looking for some wise words.

As far as I can see, Octopus have stopped doing some of the good rates they used to do, and I am not in an area where Intelligent Octopus works.

To make sure I only charge at the night rate (circa 7p as opposed to 21p) is there a charger, or a clever gadget that would work as a timer for me?

(I've not even got an EV yet, just working out the logistics!)

Most cars allow for scheduling charging times.

They haven't stopped. Do you have a smart meter?
If not, you can still opt for Octopus Go with cheap rates at night. You can set timer on car or charger depending on which model of either you have.

As stated previous most if not all electric cars allow timed charging controlled by the instrument panel in the car or a mobile app or both.
Octopus are still doing lots of interesting rates but you typically need a Smart meter to take advantage of them. They will fit an electric smart meter pretty quickly.

The installer of our smart meter stated that it would not connect and send a signal to octopus to allow half hour measures.
I was told this was because the frequency of the signal was prohibited by the local RAF base so a workaaround has been found by Octopus

Many chargers have a timer. I’ve got a Wallbox pulsar, when I used standard go, I just set the timer in the charger,

Octopus Go now offers five hours (upgraded from four) of cheap charging 00:30 - 05:30.

You must have a smart meter to get this tariff.

Intelligent Octopus Go offers six hours as standard (23:30 - 05:30) every day plus often bonus cheap slots for charging as and when needed.

You must have a smart meter to get this tariff, and either the car or the charger must be supported by Octopus. If the charger is supported then any car can be used, but not all cars are supported if the charger isn't.

I can't think of any EV which doesn't offer a timer option to delay charge start time to enable you to benefit.

What are you looking to get? My Tesla is supported by Octopus and after I linked my accounts then they tell the car when to charge.

I'm looking at i-Paces, I like the idea of having an environmental disaster Jag (XKR) and a clean energy lentil Jag simultaneously.

To qualify for IOG and get the 7p off peak you will need.

1. A smart meter.
2. A wall box (Ohme or Zappi) and/or EV that works with IOG. Its seen as better to integrate it with the wall box rather than the car as then any EV can use it and you are not at the mercy of the manufacturer removing API access leaving you with an expensive outside socket.

Check here: https://octopus.energy/smart/intelligent-octopus-g... to see the charger/car combinations.

You might need to do some digging on the Ipace, I think someone on here said the Jag software is now not supported.

It doesn't need to be if the OP can't get intelligent octopus anyway..

The Jag has a timer you can set in the car/app. The charger will likely have similar functionality too.

The only problem with the OP's plan is that after a week in the iPace they might rapidly start to fall out of love with the XKR smile

You need to provide more detail on that.

Why do you think you are in an area where Intelligent Octopus doesn't work?

Thread resurrection... (I didn't see the reply above!)

I'm with Octopus, but they don't work with the Jaguar i-Pace according to their website.

So, I'm guessing any charger I get fitted will be able to be set to charge at specific times?

Any recomendations?

It is the Intelligent Octopus tariff which won't work.

The other tariffs should be fine if you set a timer in the car not to charge outside the cheaper hours.

Someone said above that you can do that in the car.

You will also need a smart meter.
