Ioniq 5 or Polestar 2
Discussion
Hi,
I've been searching for a car for a while. I've been on the market for an E-Niro and struggled to find many with SH that makes it warranty compliant, even from main dealers where they refuse to put things in writing when the SH is slightly out. I'm at the point where as this was a factor in me deciding on an E-Niro, I feel it's time to look at other cars. I'll largely be looking to use the car for my dog (GSD) so the majority of the time (99% of journeys), the seats will be down and on the odd occassion, I might need to have my dog in the boot or sitting on a seat as a passenger (no real problems for him in a C-Class so I imagine it should be ok). This was another factor in me initially going for an E-Niro as with leather seats, it would be much easier to wipe down if I'm muddy after taking the dog out. I guess I'll have to look at easily cleanable seat covers for the next car instead.
My budget is upto £25k but I'd much rather spend closer to £20k. I'm looking at the Polestar 2 and Ioniq 5 as there seem to be quite a few available within 100 miles and the insurance is palatable for me. The insurance on a Mach-E and availability unfortunately has led to me ruling that out. For an Ioniq 5 I'd be looking at either the SE Connect or Premium trip and the Polestar 2 the standard range or standard range plus. Just curious of people's experiences with either car and if you'd chose one over the other.
Thanks in advance

I have recently opened a trade account with BCA (not that I'm a trader) and there are a literally stacks of 3 year old e-niros coming back off lease with service history. In fact, I've just handed one back myself. Those cars will all find their way onto autotrader, so I'd suggest considering waiting a bit longer as you should be for choice. Plus the e-niro is a much cheaper car than either an Ioniq 5 or Polestar 2 and you could have your pick for less than £20k
We've a ionic 5. It's a very efficient EV, far better in that respect than our previous leaf. It's very roomy and great to look at. But we made the mistake of not getting the higher spec one; the lower spec one feels really cheap by comparison. The build isn't great quality and some parts feel quite cheap. We didn't consider a polestar as the dealer is so far away. Given a polestar is really a Volvo, we'd expect it to be head and shoulders above the ionic 5 in terms of quality
If warranty is a concern keep in mind that the Polestar only comes with 3 years as standard. You can extend it for up to 3 additional years (about £400/year) but you have to do that before it's 3rd birthday, a day over 3 years old (which a lot of cars are that come off lease) and you can't extend the official warranty.

That's a good tip.fatbutt said:

Agree with this. I have the middle level “Premium” trim. It’s taken me best part of 3 years to get rid of all the rattles.Silverage said:
