EVs and tyre choices (i3S specifically).
Discussion
The i3S is due new boots all round so was thinking of going to the popular square set up.
Obviously once I spoke to my local tyre place I was advised that sudden death and null insurance would proceed as son as I fitted the Pirelli Powergy tyres I fancied (mainly down to price), even though they are XL rated if not specifically for EVs.
An i3S runs 5.5J rear and 5J upfront with 195/50/20 and 175/55/20 respectively.
The popular mod to open up everything else but the factory fit Bridgestones is to move to a 195/55/20 all round.
The excellent Facebook group on the car advises that no issues seem to result in this.
Car is a commuter car doing 12k per annum + in all weathers, I’m actually not that unhappy with the standard for Bridgestones but it doesn’t half way through the rears! Hence fancying a change now all four need replacing.

There's only one maker of the approved size tyres, Bridgestone. Currently the the fronts are about £150 each and the rears are£250 each.
I don't think going to a square set up is a good idea, but I was prepared to try going from 50 to 55 section rears, which reduced the price of each rear tyre by £100.
I approached my insurer and they said that there would be a premium loading for the non recommended rear tyre size. Which would negate the saving for me. (I'm old and my premium will go up each year because I'm over 70)
I only do about 6000 per year, so will probably end up buying the OE tyres.
