Problems with new Volvo EX30

Hi
Just bought a new Unique EX30. The internet does not work, Volvo are “ working on it”. Phones cannot connect. Worse of all on 100% charge the indicated mileage is 166 , against advertised 270
Dealer does not understand the electronics

Anyone else suffering the same?

The 50kwh battery? thats about what i'd expect range wise.

evs typically get between 3 and 4 miles per kwh in the real world. 270 is laughably fictional

I think that you’ve misunderstood what the advertised range means. It’s absolutely not the range that you should expect the car to do in normal use.

The other issues do sound like a pain though.

49kWh useable battery, 4mi/kWh at best. You're not getting 270 miles from that car.

Please tell me you knew that before buying it?

45 kWh is exactly the same amount of energy as 1 gallon of diesel.
Amusing that people are disappointed that their new EV won't do 270 mpg.
'My new car only does 160 mpg, it's st.'

indicated vs expected mileage is a failure of the testing system, not of the new customer who reads one thing and experiences another. Mad we have have to put up with this. Also shame on anyone saying 'what did you expect?". New EV consumers shouldn't have to be instant experts, it should be made clear during the buying process
I guess it could be underreading due to initial driving behaviour?

It’s both.

The same issue has existed with MPG figures for decades.

As with those, the number given should probably be viewed as the best you can ever expect if you set out to maximise efficiency.

As everyone’s driving style is different it’s not really possible to give one overall “accurate” figure.

true but fewer people noticed because it had less impact on their everyday driving. Now range has become front and centre of expectations and the crazy reality vs quoted mileage distortions won't be tolerated. And shouldn't be!

Which measure would you want then? The range expected by a heavy-footed courier on a freezing January morning or a careful pensioner taking a gentle waft around town on a September evening?

The current measure is close to a best-case, if we don’t want people being disappointed then we’ll need to start advertising the OP’s car as having around a 90 mile range.

I have an EX30, the internet dropped out for a day or 2 but then came back on.

But i do believe the update is due on the next week or 2. This should so this, and the charging issues.

Range wise, mine has steadily been increasing, im fairly confident in the good weather mine (TMP) will do close to 250miles

I have a XC40 recharge and so am familiar with battery tech, and not naive to the effectof environment on mileage. Discussed with agents and mileage problem is a software issue. Dealer has 5 such cars, 3 with same problems and 2 with intermittent. Bit embarrassing for Volvo to say the least. Software upgrade promised from Volvo, when?

3-4miles/kwh so 150 to 200 miles at best. 270 is cuckoo land.

You’re right, it’s not right, but it is a fact. I hired a mokka while my EV6 was in dock. The mokka was supposed to 206, it in fact did 140 on a warm day driven carefully around town and a few A roads.
Some manufacturers are honest about range, some are “creative”. My Kia regularly returns slightly more than the official figure in summer and is right on the official number in winter. An Etron previously got nowhere near in summer or winter.

My Model S was supposed to be around 300 miles but if cruising at 85mph in France I really had to plan no more than about 190 miles as an absolute limit between charges. In practice that meant 180 if I didn’t want constant anxiety and / or significantly slowing.

It was one of the reasons I got rid of it so quickly. My plan to use it for long journeys to our home near the Spanish border just didn’t work, with only one route available and that needing more faffing around than I was willing to put up with, especially if I wasn’t able to arrive with the car nearly empty.

Expected range is 160 - 205 miles for motorway miles. That range assumes 70mph and a worst case of -10 degrees and best case of 23 degrees.

You definitely seem to be at the lower end of that range but not massively out. Perhaps it takes a while to calibrate itself based on your usage.

I wasn't expecting to see a defence of the WLTP test! Given hardly anyone exceeds the WLTP combined figure but mostly comes well under it shows it's not fit for purpose.

Yes, to be fair this doesn't sound right. My Polestar has 61kWh useable (compared to 64kWh in the Twin Motor) and I've never seen a reading of less than 210 miles from 100% SOC, regardless of temperature.

Does that 166 miles tally with the efficiency you're getting?

Your battery is 20% bigger, so your 210 would translate to him getting 172.
