Had a couple of day at the Everything Electric show, Excel, anyone else go?

Not as crowded as I expected, but lots of interesting stuff including test drives in Tesla, BYD and the MG4 X power, aka lose your licence in 2 easy steps!

Oh my censored, censored , censored!! I was in the (MG4) passenger seat and when my mate put his foot down the acceleration was actually unpleasant - 0 to <cough> 40 in an instant! I've only experienced anything like it on a fairground ride, 0-60 in 3.8 secs, £36k.

Completely bonkers, I'm sure most people will turn it down to Eco mode once the novelty has worn off biggrin

Plenty of great things that most of us will never buy like the carbon fibre Mach 1 Mustang look-alike for £350k in standard form "This one's closer to £460k" but also lots of normal stuff like BYD, MG, Tesla, Volvo and micro/city cars (will they really become a thing?) and heat pump/electric central heating boilers.

We had a chat to Admiral insurance because there are people on line saying they can't get EV insurance; Admiral said they may not be the cheapest but are moving more into EVs not away from them.

Finally https://www.evbreakers.com - as far as they know, the only specialist EV breakers - they used to be a normal breakers but have stopped ICE completely, worth knowing if you need parts. They said the power/acceleration of EVs is a bit of an issue, they get write offs with delivery mileage because people are "over enthusiastic"!

Could be handy knowing that. I think they're only going to get busier. EV acceleration is addictive.

It is! I think not only because of the forces involved, but also the smooth and refined nature of the power delivery.

And then in the real world, you can use the same sort of acceleration exiting a corner and the way the cars bite and grip is astonishing.

I generally agree that EV's lack the drama of a decent ICE car, but there comes a point at which sheer performance is itself dramatic and exciting, irrespective of what's powering it.

Lack of drama is good when you get older. The sheer effortlessness of EV torque is right where you want it - low down where you aren't breaking any speed limits or making yourself look an antisocial knob head.
Love it. Might have to take the plunge.

Indeed. 0-30 so quickly you leave the car behind looking sleepy. You're not speeding, you're simply being efficient in terms of how long it takes to get a local journey done.

This isn't an example of EV's being too quick, it's just an example of how much better they are than ICE when it comes to real world driving.. where of course it's desireable to not dawdle, but go from stop to forward movement with no delay or faff.

And naturally, as an ICE driver, I never thought about how slow I was to simply return to reasonable speed.
