Are we heading to be an even more overweight species now? Since the refuelling stop now takes so much extra time than the 'splash and dash' more and more EV drivers are taking the recharge time as an opportunity to indulge in a coffee and pastry.

Are these extra pastries going to have a knock on effect on the population's obesity and thereby use more of the NHS resources in obesity related treatment? Perhaps the government will see sense and add a levy on charge stations to fend off this extra taxpayer burden.

This made me chuckle.....

I have a sign on my dashboard to remind me not to over indulge..

Average number of visits to petrol stations / service stations / charging stations per 6 month period (based on our house hold experience and about 6k miles in each type of vehicle).

ICE - circa 15
EV - circa 2

But somehow wife and I are not wasting awaybiggrin

This is my experience, my crisps and chocolate intake has plummeted since I bought an EV. No more stops to refuel on the way home from work, tired and hungry the temptation to buy junk food used to be hard to resist. Now I just glide home , plug the car in and have a healthy dinner.

For me that’s a massive advantage of an EV. I used to hate having to stop when I just wanted to get home!

EV's are the sole reason for new Greggs outlets at motorway services.

From 2025, the WLTP range will be updated with a pasty/pastry coefficient.

Sounds like bks to me.

From my experience, EVs attract fat people in the first place.

Drove northern Aberdeenshire to Sunderland yesterday evening. One charging stop in Edinburgh, with a brisk walk to/from Mcdonalds where I bought a chicken salad.

I think the OP is suggesting that EV drivers have to stop all the time and thus eat. Thing is that you drive up to any motorway services and the car park is laden with petrol and diesel cars parked up. Many of the drivers / passengers will be in the fast food joints which are at services. Are they only eating in sympathy for the poor EV driver?

Or are they eating because they are hungry?

Conversely, the "my car goes 700 miles" brigade must be thin as a rake as they never stop to eat even at meal times. Or to use the loo. Or a safety stop because long trip. Proper manly men, unlike us wussy fat EV drivers eating lunch at lunchtime.

Personally, I blame the increasing size of the petrol station shop for the global obesity crisis.

Until pay at pump you had little choice but to parade past the chocolate stand.

No, when I stop for a charge I just sit in my car ranting furiously in anti-ICE threads on PH. Raises my blood pressure nicely and I burn more energy. I've lost 6kg since getting my EV 4 weeks ago.

In the 3 years we had a BEV I didn't once visit a service station, versus once a fortnight in the ICE cars. So, no. Probably not.

Absolutely, and the cost of living crisis, those snacks aren't cheep! Plus the sharp increase in EV uptake and the resultant demand in food has created the high inflation rates we saw post covid.

Dunno about that but I’m pretty convinced they make people more stupid. Various threads are the evidence.

Perhaps EVs will raise the calibre of the clientele at motorway services?

Or maybe they'll put more shops and grubby 'food' outlets between the doors and the bogs, because everyone is expected to have half an hour to kill?

since buying an EV I have completely given up Diet Coke et al as I never go into a petrol station and get tempted to just buy them. I view it as healthier but don't do as many long journeys. However I still buy a lot of drive through coffees but that is independent of the type of car I have, just how lazy I am
