How does this happen?

Each and every single week i need to untie this stshow. Is it something my mrs is doing different to everyone else or do all tethered cables do this to themselves?

Not storing the cable properly between use. It should be coiled up on a hose hook, or similar, then it won’t get twisted like that. Also, it looks like a level 1 charger which has thin cables so is easier to get tangled. A level 2 charger with a thicker cable won’t do this.

pretty normal, depending on where the car is in relation to the charger.

act through the picking it up plugging in the car, unplugging, etc and I bet you put a twist in the wire by always turning anti-clockwise.

Haha that was the first thing I saw on the image and thought about asking for some leeway. I was a tight git 4 years ago when we got them replaced and didn't bother with the garage. I've been meaning to sand it down and repaint for the past two summers......Still waiting...

This is what cables do. Put them down, don't look at them, come back and its spaghetti. Even more so if you carefully coil a number of USB cables into your work bag. By the time you get to work, you might as well just cut your losses and bin them!

Cables are usually helical inside.
Coiling one way is more tangle prone than coiling the other way..

It can be the same with rope.
Some rope should only be 'coiled' into a figure-8.

If you don't get rid if the twists when you untangle a rope, the rope will re-tangle as soon as you take your eyes off it.

There is 0 electrical tape on there its a resin filled LV bicast joint. The porsche suplied tethered 20A charger only comes with 3m of cable.
The holder is behind the car, when i do it it is a quarter turn 1 way to plug it in to the car, then a quarter turn the other way to unplug it and put it in the holder. Net zero twistage. My mrs must be skipping with the fking thing or something.

I see the joint, I see the hinge clips and cap to flood the cast with resin - I work with electrical gear underwater.

But it looks like it's wrapped in some form of tape to me?

I've seen them wrapped before but we don't, the resin itself makes a 100% watertight seal.

Eagle eyes. I'm wrong. I must have wrapped it in tape while waiting for the resin to go off and forgot to cut it off when it dried. Its only been around 4 years i suppose, should be dry by now.
The tape isnt doing fk all electrically the resin is doing the safety stuff

This is one of the reasons I hate being an electrician. All cables tie themselves in knots or grab onto the slightest thing sticking out when you’re not looking. People think electricity is magic but cables are possessed.

Yea the resin is doing the job, and the tape might as well be left, it'll be a sticky mess if you try to remove it after four years of being rained on!
