Thinking of selling our Forester XT as we arent using it for what we bought it for and have a small savings policy maturing so will have up to £20k to spend.

Looking at an SUV style as we love the height, ride, boot space etc of the XT BUT maybe a supermini style car.

We do have solar at home so charging isnt a problem and we dont do many long trips...maybe 2/3 a year and will have time to stop/charge/cuppa tea...if need be.

Like the looks of the Niro and has a good sized battery. Dont like a Leaf, e 208 too small. The MG ZS gives me a slight tacky feeling.....

What do y'all think

To me, you are describing a Niro or Kona. Niro is a bit larger.

I had a ZS, someone at work has an eNiro.

Out of those two get the eNiro (the longer range one), it's better put together, will have a better range, despite the smaller battery - try and find one with a heatpump though.

Both are likely to still be under warranty.

I've now got a Model 3 - that's a whole new world and definitely a step up for me, but may not for for everyone.

All depends on budget obviously.

quiet a few reviews really like the Niro. Thought it had just 1 battery, the 64kwh? Bit longer than the Kona so more room inside and maybe a bigger boot????

There is a smaller battery one.

I think there's a couple of trims too. I'd be aiming for a higher spec one.

I can only see the one battery, maybe the newer one has a bigger battery but that will come in over our £20k. Spec wise, thought I'd read there was 1.

Also the Pug e 2008 seems similar in size to the Niro

I'm pretty sure that will have a 50kwh battery and won't be a patch on the 64kwh eNiro range wise.

True, nearly all the Niros I have seen, online, have the larger battery and high spec

I am only looking on fleabay and Autotrader at the mo, the latter of which is a right PITA thanks to feckin cinch! Is there any other great websites to choose from...also the Niro isnt set in stone

That annoyed me too.

We ended up with a Zoe, the Niro was a little too expensive when we replaced out last car (an Outlander - not by choice, someone helped themselves to it).

Could be worth a look of you can live with the range and ncap score as you can get a 2 year old one with 3 years warranty left for less than £12k. The boot is surprisingly big too.

Judging by what you've said though the eNiro sounds pretty ideal. At that price range that's where I'd be heading anyway.

Possibly a bit bit, but Skoda Enyaqs are just creeping into £20k region now as another suggestion.

Probably the best car I've ever owned, outstanding all rounder.

Things are complicated a little now as they've blocked third party app access so cheap on demand charging is a pain... But fixable with a dynamic charging compatible charger.

Overall hard to beat the iPace as an all round car - also they've depreciated so much already (because JLR..) that if you buy one today and run it for a few years, chances are you're not going to lose very much on it.

As ever with a used JLR car, keep it in warranty.

Yes. I was agreeing with you and suggesting that you didn’t need to cast your net wider to find a car to fit your needs.

£20k i-Pace with six months Jaguar warranty https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202402036...

You could also get an Audi e-Tron https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202403137...

What size do you need, and what range?

I looked at this area of the market closely, established that the e-Niro 64 kWh is the obvious choice, and then bought something else. But it's still the obvious choice. As well as being bigger it felt nicer inside than the Kona to me.

The Stellantis EVs have a range of about 120 miles at 70mph, that may be fine for you but it's a lot less than the 64 kWh Koreans.

The e2008 over states the battery (it's a real bugbear of the EV market). It's only 46kWh useable, despite often quoted as 50kWh. The Niro is 64kWh usable (67kWh real).

The Niro is a good car. Trim 2 is okay, but missed a fee key features I'd miss. Trim 4 is good. Heat pump is useful but not essential. Charging speed isn't great (40-70kW) but the efficiency makes up for it and the large battery means if you drive like you stole it you should still see 180 miles. Worst I saw was 2.5m/kWh with roof box, roof bikes and a rush...
