Apologies if this has been shared before. Seems like a very sensible 'hack' to avoid paying EV tax next year.

Cheers

I can't see this working, I assume they'll just pro rata the tax accordingly, so you pay what is due.

It worked for me on Thursday. It simply asks you to confirm that the car is already taxed and then taxes it to the end of February next year.

The government is generally not very keen on people not paying stuff, just because they have messed up the administration of the tax. My guess is that the loophole will be closed and letters will be sent asking for the money.

Thats because there's nothing to pay over the next 12 month period, I suspect that when you renew it next feb it will give you a month of zero tax and 11 months at £15 per month, so £165 in total.

Could be wrong but I reckon the dvla have considered this scenario.

This was raised on more than 1 thread recently, once by me. smile

I'm afraid I didn't watch it all, could barely hear anything, but I intend to SORN mine (if my e:Ny1 arrives rolleyes) at the end of Feb for a few days (DVLA database need a few days...), and register it with £0 VED from March 1st, 2025. It won't be backdated and you won't have to pay VED unless you SORN it again whilst you own it, until 1/3/26.

Any car that has valid VED does NOT get charged extra until they renew, regardless of whether it's an EV or not.

Really? I doubt it, the admin would be horrendous. VED went up from £295 to £325 for my car in April 2023 but I didn't get a bill. It's the price you pay when you buy it. EVs are not 'exempt,' the cost is £0 until April 2025. Regardless of the date it starts from, this will be possible unless they made an incredible exception. eek

Could be wrong, I bet you are. Anything else would cost a fortune in admin.

Well despite the naysayers, I see it as nothing to lose!

Have they ever done this with any change in VED previously?
