We bought a house and there is a Wallbox charger which the previous owner told me worked for their i3.

Plan is to rent an i3 for a month and see if it works for me. Then buy M3 or Taycan later.

(1) how can I check that the Wallbox charger works before committing to the i3 rental?
(2) owner didn’t leave any info or account details for the Wallbox. Can I just install the app, enable Bluetooth and connect to the Wallbox (perhaps to view it’s „status” e.g. if it’s working)
(3) anything else a complete EV beginner should be aware of?

Thanks!

A friend has one and it works like any other electric socket - just plug in - no app etc. that’s only for public chargers. I believe there are two types of cable though. If you know what t vehicle the current owner charges then you’ll be able to work out the type and check it’s compatible with the i3. Google street map may show you an EV parked up.

Ask a mate with an EV to test it? If you're in north Hampshire I can pop 'round.

I’m SW London unfortunately, and without a single EV owning mate…
Will the app not tell me the charger „status”?

A half-decent dealer will be able to say whether BMW changed the charging connection during the lifespan of the model - I can’t see why they would but always best to be safe.

Is there a QR code on the charger? Or some sort of serial number/identifier which you probably need to input on the app.
