Work based car charging options

Free chargers get totally abused.
In my wife’s place the same guy was plugged in all day every day to one of their free chargers, insisting his battery was too low. They installed more charge just 14pence per KWh (which is subsidised and less than it costs for the third party managed service + the electricity), he hasn’t used it since. Now they’re used sensibly.
In our village there is a free charger from the Council. the same Tesla has been there from 4-30 PM to 8am every day for 4 years, I was told at one time he bought an ‘out of order’ sack thing and stuck it over it to reserve it, but someone binned it.

There is no benefit in kind on charging at work if provided for free.
Offering it for free would be a good benefit but they probably should cover their costs, which would be far less than 40p…
What makes you think it’s “far less than” 40p? Domestic price cap isn’t even that much less and commercial rates aren’t capped. Offering it for free would be a good benefit but they probably should cover their costs, which would be far less than 40p…
Around 20 charging points, with more going in shortly. Managed by PodPoint. 25p/kWh.
In what I guess is a fairly typical scenario these days, under used on a Monday and Friday and very much in demand on other week days!
I have a PHEV currently and use the chargers so that I can do both my inbound commute and return home leg on electricity.
As and when I move to a full EV, I won’t be using them, which seems a little ironic!

(Speaking as an installer) it is entirely up to a business what it offers in terms of costs but don't forget it has invested in all the charging infrastructure and software for you. When staff are charging it is paying for the electricity and software licences - all on going costs. Plus, if it charges you it will pay a payment processing fee.
That's a lot of investment.
All of our larger clients charge staff, mostly just to cover the cost of charging. The only one that doesn't is rammed and is just going from 4 chargers to 16 to cope with demand, but if they started charging staff I am sure this would drop dramatically. We don't see this level of demand in any other clients.
Even when staff do pay it is usually cheaper than any other commercial location and has the benefit of being at work, where you are going to be all day anyway.

We have 1 22kw charger and is free charges my 45kW battery in 2-3H (depending on SOC)
Weirdly it charges to full faster from 10% than it does from 50%
Im the only one with an EV so works very nicely
I do find it odd with employers charging 40p and profiting from employees! surely it would be more beneficial for the employee to have a tiny pay cut and have free charging?

See above, they are covering their costs and have paid for the chargers. Bear in mind that non-EV staff don't get easy/cheap fuel...There are 8 chargers at my work and are currently free, 2hrs slot, similar rules to someone mentioning above.
Doesn't cover my usage, but if they started charging I probably wouldn't use them. (7.5p/kwh at home)
If you're only option is to charge at the office, then it may make sense.
Even @ 40p/kwh it's still roughly 80% cost of running a Diesel @45mpg.

Why should it be free? I say this as an EV driver... my last office had electric chargers, it also had a petrol station opposite, I didn't expect free electricity or fuel.
Noone pays if they charge their mobile phone at work.No way would I expect charging to be free at work.
This will all become a logistical nightmare when BIK is introduced.
