Not the cable but the actual plug.

I bought a cable which is stated as being suitable for being left outside 'but kept out of puddles' which my cable always has been.

After less than 12 months, the metal connector in the plug that connects to the car has corroded and fallen out so it no longer works.

Apparently this is not covered by warranty as the supplier calls this corrosion caused by moisture.

So what is it? It can or can't be left outside

(for reference, i'm in the UK where we have quite a bit of rain)

Are there many PH folk who are suffering this issue? What happens if your cable is tethered?

Does the plug not have a cover to go on the end?

I've seen instances where the cap covering the plug ends up retaining water and causing corrosion

Yes it does, always been used but obviously it isn't waterproof as they call it a 'dust cover'

Odd, all the stuff I have looks used, but no corrosion as such.

Not sure what's happened to yours OP. Mine is over 4 years old and still looks fresh. The rubber hasn't degraded at all. Only thing I can think is UV damage but mine it out of the sun all day.

It's not the rubber, it's a metal grommet in one of the plugs that has corroded and popped out.

So much for being able to leave it outside.

Bit of an oxymoron to claim it can be left outside but in the detail they say water damage isn't covered by warranty grrr

sry yeah i guessed the rubber had rotted and allowed water in to corrode the grommet

'Parked' that way with the rubber cover to the top prevents water ingress.

Corrosion seens to occur when 'parked' facing down. Moisture can penetrate and the rubber cover keeps it there, then when the sun hits it you have a mini sauna and corrosion central.

Ideally, I think an angled wall attachment that doesn't sweat is the best option.
