Need a second car for family duties and have my own company.

No chance I am buying new even to claim the 100% CA given the levels of depreciation....

Range is not a major drama for me - mainly day to day local runs.

Have suitably enormous kids, so space a must.

In terms of value:-

Etron 55 - £27 - £30k (range issues, audi reputation for unreliability)
EQC £25k - £30k (old platform)
Q4 40 (slowish, no AWD) - £32k
EQB (slowish, rear sets no use for older kids)
Ix3 - £35k (range not wonderful)
ID4 - £27k (meh)
Model Y - £38k (1 year old)
Ix4\I4 - £42k (range, likely further depreciation)
Model 3 LR (27k)

Likely divorce candidates:-

Taycan - £50 - £60k
Etron GT - ditto

Liked the look of the Kia EV and Ioniq 5, but never owned the brand.

I'm leaning towards a Tesla. Would love a Taycan, but already own a Cayman GTS so don't really need the additional thrills (lies, of course...feel free to talk me into it).

Really like the etron as well. Looks like you can PCP one for not a lot of money for a couple of years, which would de-risk the purchase a little.

Any thoughts?

Was going to go with a Tesla MY until I realised how cheap iPaces were. If you don't mind the slower charging and the whole JLR experience (so far, I've had a 'good' one, but go MY21 or higher for extra peace of mind), then it's a stonking bit of kit.

Tesla felt flimsy and rode like crap in comparison.

Definitely MY imo. Try one yourself before believing the comments about ride quality.
Jag might be too small in the back…

A Tesla needs a warranty going off our two years with one.
Kia are great - 7 year warranty and well equipped with decent EV drivetrains.
Ditto Hyundai (same company) but a 5 year warranty. Ioniq 5 is a big car in real life and should have enough space.
Not convinced all the Germans quite know what they’re doing with EVs yet, but we’ve not owned one - it’s just what I’ve read.
eta if range isn’t a problem I’d go etron as they’re getting silly cheap for what you get.

Out of your list the Tesla is the best electric car.
The others are more comfortable, better built etc but the Tesla wins as a ev.
Model y has loads of room. The rear bench is elevated over the y which means adult will find the back seats much more comfortable than the model 3.

If you do any sort of long distance drives, the Tesla infrastructure is unmatched at the moment and for the foreseeable imo.

But it’s very ugly and ride isn't the best. MY23 had a lot of improvements so would highly recommend getup on of them.

Had thought about Polestar but it looks tight in the back.

Re Ipace, had discounted based on the JLR ownership experience, but will maybe have another look...

Model Y is an obvious choice. Have seen some nice examples and others with some less than ideal panel gaps.

I'd be more concerned about the steering wheel than the panel gaps. smile

As a second car a Model 3, as a main car a Model Y.

We have a model Y LR and its completely excellent. Ignore the haters. My dad has a model 3 and its also excellent but significantly smaller than the model y.

Well I have a 2022 iPace - Caesium blue Black model - which has been faultless over the last 18 months. And it books at just 30 -33K with 12K miles on the clock. A bargain (not that I am selling). It is also an amazing car. But I would not run one without a warranty, but if you buy one like mine you will have 18 months manufacturer's warranty.
Before buying I tried Taycan, E-tron GT, etc and, for the money, the iPace was the best compromise of handling, speed and quality.
That said, if I was looking now, I would try a Polestar too...

I-Pace is my choice. Plenty of space and go. I would get an HSE so you get all the spec.

Skoda Enyaq 80x SUV - much better car than its Q4 and ID4 siblings, and a lot more practical and spacious inside.

Looks nice in sport spec too.

Polestar should be on the list & also worth looking the Genesis versions of the Hyundai's

EQC is a nice place to sit, range is the issue, but manage to get 3 kids across the back (two in high back boosters) ok.

Another big vote for the iPace - it should definitely be on the shortlist, easily the best bang for buck I can think of, given the prices used ones are now going for.

Keep it in warranty, a small price to pay given how much of a bargain these 400hp rocket ship SUV's now are.

I think with any of the shortlist, you would want it in manufacturers warranty. Possibly "approved \ extended" but not aftermarket.

To that end, I think my money would be a used EV6. I run it's Genesis cousin via Salary Sacrifice, and my wife is on her 5th Kia partly due to great customer service and warranty.

I suggest you ignore the Tesla naysayers and haters.

Anecdotal: my 2019 US-built Tesla Model 3 AWD LR has been completely bomb proof. China or Berlin built Teslas are reported to be even better. Best car I've ever owned and I say this coming from Toyotas and Lexuses.

If you have your own company, why not lease a brand new EV on a good deal for 2-3 years.

The lease deals have not been all that great of late. In a higher rates environment, I suspect great deals might be few and far between. I'm also quite happy to own it as I will run it into the ground and then maybe buy it privately.

Oldest is heading to 6ft at 14....

Honestly, not listening to them moaning is well worth the price of the correct car.

You're probably right about the P2 being a bit tight on rear space for you. Luckily we're a short family!
