Having kicked off the the OSSEV project with my son this year to help get him back into work, we are making good progress with our test platform, a 1992 Eunos Roadster (MX-5) conversion and hope to have it on the road by spring. We are huge fans of EVs and having owned some interesting cars over the years, we are convinced that there is a bright future for a light-weight (sub 1000kg) two-seater sports car with great handling and the power and torque that comes with electric power. Our focus is on great driver involvement and a fun car that is not laden with technology distractions.

If anyone wants to get involved in the collaborative design of a new electric sports car that will be an open-source design, with parts manufactured by multiple suppliers, we have a growing community (currently 140+ people) and some very experienced people involved. There is a Facebook group linked from the project website.

I love this idea. The arrival of electric cars has coincided with a huge increase in driver ‘aids’ . I’d love to see easier DIY electric specials.

To kick the project off, we are doing a Mazda MX-5 conversion as a test platform. We are making really good progress and you can follow the pretty much daily updates on our website. We also have a build thread on Pistonheads - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
