So after my annual lecture from the accountant, I've given in. Co Director (Mrs LFB) needed new wheels and my normal approach has just been go out and buy something with my own real money. That sends the accountant into a major flap so this time, I've heeded advice.

As Mrs LFB rarely does more than say 40 miles mooching around in a day but intersperses that with a 200 mile round trip to visit elderly relative on a sometimes urgent basis, we could do all electric. However, as I'm not convinced about her ability to remember to charge the thing, Hybrid seemed a decent option.

The GLC has dropped into the lowest BIK band for a Hybrid due to the alleged 80 mile electric range, I've gone for the diesel rather than the petrol as the latter seemed to be working harder with all that weight. It's got a decent enough 31kwh battery and we can charge at home. The dealer is three miles from home so at least when it breaks (as I know it's bound to!), no great drama for them to come and get it. Seemed like a decent enough bit of kit to drive and I've done it on a contract hire deal so not bothered about depreciation.

Not wanting a white or black one seemed to cause MB lots of issues so it's on factory order, maybe January/February.

Quite looking forward to being a grown up!

What makes you think it's going to break down? I got a used MB petrol plug in hybrid and ran it for 4 years. It was perfectly reliable, no matter how hard I drove it.

Just being cynical, I hope it won't!

I do like the GLC, even if you get 60 miles out of electric that's still a good range for pottering about in a day.

I like the new GLC but the pricing on them are mad. I’m guessing that’s a £70k car nowadays, negated a bit in your example of course.

Throw in a tow hitch and delivery, you're looking at another £5k on that as P11D value. I've only gone for the mid-range version, the one with drug dealer wheels and a moon roof is stroking £80K. Agreed prices are loony, can't imagine anyone actually pays in cash.
