I-Pace off tarmac
Discussion
I am very tempted to swap my RR Evoque for an I-pace. Would go for the air suspension.
I do a bit of work at race-courses and eventing which involves some driving off-road (but not mud-plugging or greenlane-ing) and live in a area where there are a few rutted gravel tracks which I drive on.
How would an i-pace cope do you think? It is a big heavy beast and there are some youtube videos of it driving off road, would I would not want to trash it.

From various videos and early reviews I think it did well. Air suspension would be worth having so you can raise the ride height.
A link to an iPace forum thread about it too

I live in south Lincolnshire, its all clay around here and some of the dirt roads we travel in the winter to walk the dog flood, resulting in deep clay lined pits in the road filled with water.
The iPace was remarkably good given its standard road tyres. I'll credit a chunk of its traction to being able to make crazy smooth progress due to electric drive as opposed to having to give an ice 4x4 some revs to get torque, at the risk of then over rotating the wheels and losing traction.
The ride height with air is an obvious benefit, although beware that it's bumpy! As the air pressure increases to raise up the car, the suspension becomes extremely firm as a result. Gets the job done though.
They also have the same hill descent/ascent and off road torque vectoring tech as the land rover models as standard.
You won't trash it on such roads, it has the ride height and the wheels are pushed to the very corners of the car, you're not going to clip bodywork unless you lose control or take it somewhere insane.
If you get really bored you can go wading too. Jag say max depth of half a metre but people have gone far deeper than that at rufford fjord in iPace.. there's a video somewhere of a Tesla model 3 basically going underwater - all powertrain elements are sealed although I'm not sure about water creeping into the rest of the car... they're all really capable through water though.

I have one.
Going back soon hopefully. Well when I say going back, it’s in garage broken down, as it has been most of its time with me, and I have a courtesy car. JLR have been OK but don’t actually know if they can fix it.
Waiting on new car coming, soon hopefully and then I can hopefully return to having above 50% certainty that I will make it to destinations, and home again, without intervention of JLR assist or the men in yellow vans.
2 of my colleagues have same vehicle and are in same situation.
Shame as it’s nice to drive.

What on earth happened though? Every time there is an iPace thread on here there is nothing but love for them - despite the occasional fault (it's a JLR car..), what's caused yours so many problems?Going back soon hopefully. Not sure what this has got to with off road use though..

They are great cars but I would not run one without an extended warranty. That said mine has been very reliable. Unlike my brother's Taycan which has been off the road for a, frankly ridiculous, quarter of its short life.
I think I've said the same in every Ipace thread... amazing cars, Jag did a stupidly good job of designing a ground up drivers EV... but keep it under warranty! If you do that, you get peace of mind and one if the finest EV's for a steal on the second hand market right now.
Back to topic: they're also rudely good off road and perhaps more relevant, great in winter and won't get stuck in a muddy field or beached on a rutted back road.

Picked up a MY21 HSE with Air and pivipro last week. Bought from a main dealer. Full warranty.
Have driven it around on Salisbury plain a bit. It's awesome!
Perfect care for my use and probably the most luxurious and well appointed car I have ever had.
That's how I felt after three years with one. You can drive over just about anything, through snow, deep mud, through water.. And all whilst sat in a gorgeous soft leather seat breathing filtered air in near silence, just like a Range Rover product. But then unlike an Range Rover, you can hit the normal roads and it's stupidly fast and corners flat and tight Have driven it around on Salisbury plain a bit. It's awesome!

The perfect 'does everything' car.
