So my BMW i4 has the factory Hankook Evo S1 Evo 3 tyres on it and the rears are down to 3mm on 15k miles.
Driving back today in the slightly greasy conditions the car went round on a roundabout, I managed to catch it at around 90 degrees but it was scary and I was barely on the throttle. I then had to take every fast corner very slowly as any throttle and the back wants to step out! Accelerating up a steep hill again caused the rears to spin up and the TC to kick in.

Not impressed at how bad the performance has dropped off given they're only around 60% worn but they are dealing with that electric torque I guess and so I need to get some replacements, anyone got any recommendations? The Hankooks have been decent up to this point but if anyone has a better choice I'd love to hear it.

Thanks!

Are the rears down to 3mm all over the tyre or is there any uneven wear (that may be why they didn't perform that well)?

I have an iX and from factory it came with Pirelli P Zero Elect tyres, which are soft, sticky (never had any issues with grip in wet or dry, but car is xdrive) but fast wearing (I expect they will reach 3mm by 12.5k miles on the rears, and I don't drive like a hooligan) - not sure if they are available in i4 sizes?

It's very even wear, was only at the dealer a couple of weeks ago and they flagged up the tread depth for me.
I don't really care how fast they wear as I luckily don't pay for tyres hah.

I've always run summer tyres on my cars as none of them have had the power and torque that the i4 has and they've all been fine in winter. This makes me worry about how good the Hankooks will be when it gets cold

The new Hankook Ion Evo looks interesting. Rates higher than Michelin Pilot sport 5 in this test.

The second set of tyres on our MINI Electric (Pirelli P7s) have significantly outperformed the original set (Hankook Ventus) both dynamically and for rate of wear. Both tyres are original equipment for the car.

it's bizarre that you experienced so little grip and traction in any modern EV tbh - the traction control in ev's is very accurate and essentially instant, over throttle on a roundabout shouldn't entice a spin, no matter how worn the tyres are, unless TC is off (traction mode in the BMW) or unless carrying quite some speed when you changed steering angle.

Are you certain it wasn't something on the roundabout? IE: if you go somewhere safe and give it a bootfull, would the back end step out in the same way? Only one way to find out...
