Good vid on a Li-ion battery recycling process. Interesting stats; the batteries are 95% recyclable, and the manufacture of new batteries using recycled products emits 70% less emissions than batteries made from raw materials. That puts a big dent in a BEV lifecycle carbon emissions.

well timed given i was having a discussion with a colleague this week who refuses to go EV because to paraphrase "the batteries will die before the car, they'll go to landfill and it'll cost a fortune to mine for new ones"

this only covers destructive recycling, before it gets to this stage there are a multitude of companies replacing individual cells in the battery packs so with optimization only the really dead stuff should get destroyed for re manufacture.

He also went on about the cost of insurance claims and early write-offs because a failed EV battery was worthless. Sure the new battery may be expensive but there is still huge value in a faulty EV battery pack.

Tell him to look up Tesla or Nissan Leaf batteries/modules on eBay, that may change his mind as to how worthless second hand EV batteries are...

Very very interesting.

Who is doing this in the UK or Europe ?

70% value recovery and 95% material recovery .... but only after the point where the battery needs to be recycled after it has had a second life as a power bank ?

The quality of the battery manufacture and these installations is still critical ... nobody wants a Li-Ion battery fire !

Who is doing this re-purposing in the UK ?
