I'm being lent a Taycan for a few weeks. Charging at home will be a 13 amp cable across the pavement. So in the main, I'll want to use public chargers.

I've put £50 into a Connected Kerb account and £20 into BP Pulse. What else should I sign up for?

In the past, I've had a source London card but my experience then was that they were usually not working.

Around 10 years ago I tried a whole raft of electric cars and my experience was that charging was a nightmare. And all the cars (Leaf, C0, e-UP, Twizy) were rubbish except for the Tesla. I've driven a few that I like - Honda-E, Taycan, Mustang, but not lived with any.

What do I need to know?

Electric Universe card, if your energy supplier is part of the club.

All new chargers have contactless. where will you be going? i tend to have the apps/accounts of those chargers i use often and it's usually journey dependant.

Would always recommend a PodPoint account because of the sheer number of destination chargers they operate - probably wouldn’t bother topping it up until you’re going to use it though.

Why are you putting money into accounts / apps?

Just PAYG.

I live in Finchley. If I drive into London - I work in Westminster - is it congestion charge exempt? If I park on a charger near work what happens about paying for parking?

It is exempt but you need to register first.

Might be worth looking at Octopus Electroverse

https://electroverse.octopus.energy/

You don't have to be an Octopus customer

Look for lamp post chargers, they are what makes owning an electric car in London possible for me! Find them easily on Zap Map and just pay as you use
