3-Pin Charging Lead Recommendations
Discussion
Hi All,
First post in here - we're expecting a Megane E-Tech in later March and will need to charge it occasionally at home via a 3-pin socket initially.
Does anyone have any recommendations for what cable to get (the car only comes with the Type-2 22kW cable)?
The Masterplug one from Screwfix looks like it might be ideal: https://www.screwfix.com/p/masterplug-10a-2-3kw-mo...
There are lots on Amazon, but they seem to be all from the same suppliers in China.
We'll be getting the cable pulled for a 7kW wall box in line with a kitchen upgrade later this year and my wife has chargers at work, so this hopefully won't get much use.

Yeah I fought over the proper v amazon argument and opted for the more expensive Screwfix one. We use it when we visit relatives and it's been great.
However at my dad's we plug it in to his 15m cheapo coil extension and it gets his cable gets very hot and trips the internal RCD. Nothing to do with the masterplug charger, just draws a lot of current (no way!) and sockets you use should be standard, not DIY extension sockets.

Thanks for that, I did wonder about the suitability of my garage sockets - they're fed from a separate small consumer unit but are daisy-chained and some were installed by me... Will certainly be carefully monitoring them initially! However at my dad's we plug it in to his 15m cheapo coil extension and it gets his cable gets very hot and trips the internal RCD. Could save yourself a few quid and get a pre-owned Gen2 Tesla Mobile connector?
Decent length of cable, just plug-and-play. It's a Type 2 connector so will work with any EV and hasn't got a screen or anything to "go wrong". These seem to go for about £100-150 on eBay depending on condition.
Just an option to save a few quid. You can (if you have access to one) get a £35 32a Commando adapter and charge at 7.4kW using the same unit.

Been looking at these tonight as the wife’s new EV doesn’t come with one.
The Tesla charger we have is good, but doesn’t allow amps to be reduced as that’s handled by the car. I’ve definitely been glad of this feature in the past where the quality of the electronics is unknown.
Settled on one of these -

Available in different lengths and via Amazon for £10 less.
