Got my new company car list and narrowed it down to either an EV VW ID4 or a hybrid kia Niro from a pretty wk list

Work will contribute abit to charger installation but i then have to claim back 8p a mile for work

Hybrid means keep fuel card and continue to do a mileage form every month to have them deduct private miles from expenses

Leaning towards getting id4

Plan on asking HR what take home pay differences are between the 2 cars

What do you recommend?
Thanks

I’d get the Niro, couldn’t get on with the ID4’s touchscreen & infotainment, it’d drive me up the wall

As a private car EV every time. As a company car at 8p/mile I’m not sure I wouldn’t take the hybrid.

Genuine question: what's wrong with it? I had a 2016 Golf GTE and the infotainment was flawless. Not once did I have any lag with it or any bugs in 4 years and 100k miles.

Totally different system, the ID3/4 touch buttons and screen are awful.

Also a vote to take a really good look at the ID4 nav and entertainment before comitting to it. I had a Cupra Formentor with the same system and it infuriated me so much I sent it back early.

Thanks for all the tips

So long as the sat nav works and the phone connects I'm happy, I spend half my time on the phone when driving

The main driver for me is pounds in pocket

Just gone on to octopus at home, have solar panels and longest run will be less than 200 miles so presuming EV will be best with BIK and night time charging

Or have I missed something?

Any contribution from your employer for the solar panels? Seems a poor deal either way unfortunately.

Uniformly hated by most reviewers. I dont think they are quite that bad, but could be frustrating.

That said, Kia is knocking it out of the park at the moment. The Niro isnt the most exciting car in the world, but if this is the latest model, its supposed to be really good. Very good MPG and should be very easy to live with. Only question would be the size of the infotainment system. I am only seeing an 8" system - which isnt quite as large as I would prefer. But hey, your call.

For that usage, taking account the almost zero BIK... No brainer tbh. A £50-60k BEV would cost you about the same as a £25-30k diesel Golf due to the BIK on the car, the BIK on the diesel.

Or of course a cheaper BEV will be significantly cheaper than any ICE.

Definitely a no brainer! Although as you like to talk a lot whilst driving, a car with great and wireless carplay/android auto could be big improvement for you. You can use WhatsApp or any other compatible app to make calls/group calls via the car screen/controls and audio in the same way you would normally do via your phone directly.

What's wrong with using driving time to also be phone time? It's handsfree, it's no different to talking to my wife sat next to me. It's better actually, she normally uses shared car journeys as a way to discuss something I don't want to discuss, but I'm a captive at that point so can't escape frown

Trying to find an excuse for not having painted the back garden fence when Mrs Deuce is sat right next to me is far more distracting than dispatching a few work calls whilst cruising down the A1.

Eh? You've lost me.. Why should a person not talk to another during a dull drive? You never take a call whilst driving?

No never, ( Not to say I didnt in the past, but after taking a call while in the outside lane of a motorway, with kids in the car I couldn't recall any of the 5 miles I travelled during the calls duration) so since then ( about 15 years ago) I will never answer whilst driving. I pull into a layby or service station or just wait until home.

Is the e-Niro not an option? Fab little car, great tech and rapid enough.

Current car is focus st line Estate diesel and I'm sure BIK is around £6K

So presumably that will mean that the id4 will be £6k of income not taxed?
