Lost my excitement of EV's
Discussion
A couple of weeks ago I suddenly lost all excitement of owning an EV.
I had a home charger installed last summer since I knew then that the Mayor of London would push through his agenda. Since that time I have been waiting patiently looking at all the different models that would suit my needs. Even thinking of possibly owning a Macan EV.
But now I just cannot be arsed. A number of things have crept in:
(1) Real world range.
(2) Been watching Fifth Gear Recharged and found that build quality is lacking even in the luxury brands. Yes Volvo - I'm shocked by the C40 Recharge review!
(3) The extreme bloat in even the most mundane cars. Why does it have to be greater than 2 tonnes.
Am I asking for too much and will technology eventually catch up so that my requirements can be met?

Real world range differs in Summer and Winter just like ICE.
The build quality was some wires being visible under the front seats, not really too much of an issue but I see where you're coming from.
Not all are over 2 tonnes. Tesla Model 3s are all under 2 tonnes, similar weight to the equivalent ICE.

Range is affected by weather, and how often are you going to go to its extremes? I've had ours 12 months and done that once, and just stopped for a fast charge to top it up.
Build quality of our mustang is precisely the same as it was in our previous fords, again don't watch amd believe ste TV purely made for shock value get eyeballs and hence advertising revenue.
Batteries are heavy, so are ICE engines.
Don't want one don't buy one, but do that based on sensible opinions, not " how can I start an argument on PH"
I've noticed over time that my acquisitive urge tends to wax and wane like this.
It tends to manifest as a period of huge interest in researching the right thing to buy, watching reviews, making spreadsheets, and reading spec sheets and manuals.
Often if I don't buy the thing, I'm left a couple of months later wondering why I was so obsessed.
It's not just EVs: I do the same thing around holidays, electronics, DIY projects. And in fact ICE cars prior to EVs.
This is normal behaviour… right?

As for a lack of love for the EV, I get it, I have also watched Fifth Gear Recharged and been rather surprised at the lack of anything interesting and the consistent drawbacks, even the Anglesey shootouts are mind numbing to watch where EV's are concerned. The Peugeot GT of some sort V the new small Honda thing, good god, it was like they took 2 cars designed for my mother to the track.
As it currently stands, I find nothing inspiring about any EV's I have come across so far, just my opinion.

Quite. A Model 3 is very similar in weight to a 3-series.1,843kg for the Performance.
My F31 320D has an official weight of 1,605 Kg
The new G21 it's 100 Kgs more, with the addition of the "light Hybrid" 48 V motor.
The Standard Model3 is at 1,660 Kg with a much, much lower COG...

While a Tesla 3 might be under 2 ton, a bmw ix is 400kg heavier and the 3 series starts around 400kg lighter than the tesla. Not that many people by their cars by the kg.
Which one?if we take the one with the closest output -the 330i saloon- it weighs 1,558 kg so 100 Kg less than the Standard Model 3 RWD
The lightest 3-Series must be the the manual 318i which apparently is 1,490 kg.
So the difference is "only" 170 Kg
To think that the E46 3 Series 318i was 1295 Kg....

As for die hard EV type, whatever that means, I also have a V8 that does about 12 mpg, so not really..
But as for die hard, you've decided they're not inspiring but haven't got one, have you even tried one or are all your opinions based on youtube and PH?

Grrrrrr, don’t argue with the electro-Illuminati. Don't want one don't buy one, but do that based on sensible opinions, not " how can I start an argument on PH"
Bit of research tells me a Tesla battery is just over 830kg whilst for fun, an LS3 430hp V8 petrol engine is 183kg.
