I'm on the fence.

I have a BMW I3S at the moment and the dealer has just offered me £6k over what I owe for the car. I love the car, but if I am honest with myself it is a little inconvenient/unsuitable and my wife doesn't like it.

Coupled with that if I do sell I can't see myself getting a bigger pure BEV because the capital cost and an unreliable infrastructure have become a bit of a mental hurdle.

So despite my poor experience with a mild hybrid I am thinking a proper hybrid now and to further that a Nissan e power is currently frontrunner (supposedly drives like an electric, which for me is the most important part of a potential new daily).

What I really need is some unsubstantiated advice from the internet to topple me one of three ways:

1) Stick with the I3
2) Twist and get a bigger BEV
3) Fold and go hybrid of some variety

Logic to stick with BEV welcomed.

Lease a BEV. Nobody can predict residuals in a few years time. No need for huge capital outlay.

I love the i3 but it works for us as we never need public chargers and have other cars. It’s the one we both use though. Hope to keep ours long term.

I'm going the other way and looking to change my hybrid (BMW 330e) for an EV! Reason for this is the congestion charge in London. I can't see the point of BEV if not in a totally urban environment. Prices for EV's seem all over the place though, so if you're getting a good price from the dealer, it's worth taking it.

Honestly, a great car, but it was bought for a specific requirement which we no longer have (a 60 mile per day school run), and we moved from semi-rural, to completely rural, and it, being a city car at heart, just struggled with poor roads, mud etc. Swapped it for a Mini Countryman All4 which suits the OH's needs better.

We sold our i3 last year. Loved that little thing and it was great. But we got what we paid for it 2 1/2 years prior and it made sense at the time. Just once in my life I wanted to not take a bath on a car, so I can now proudly say that I owned a car for 2 1/2 years with minimal costs and sold it for what I bought it for!

Values have dropped since and I sold right at the top of the market. Would struggle to get anywhere close to what I got back in August and values have dropped around 15% or more since. I was lucky. Current i3 prices here are much more reasonable now though, so much so I would even consider getting one again.

But we swapped to a BMW 328d wagon. This is the 320d engine but for some reason badged as a 328d here. 500 miles on a tank, diesel is more expensive and petrol, but so far its doing great. Car was cheaper, about the same cost to run and a lot more practical. Currently dont have an EV, but will go back to one at some point. Wife wants an i4, but lets see what happens this year and what models come to market. Rumors of a decent 3 series as an EV, so lets see (currently China only model).

My view? If you love the car, keep it. If it fits the use cases that you have, why not blast around in a pocket rocket? For me, I wanted to make my money back and the range was starting to become an issue for what I needed it for. Not a deal breaker, but now fill up the diesel BMW once a month on average, which is nice. But now might not be the time to sell though - if values are good, maybe its great, but worth checking if the offer is real. And like others have mentioned, if you want an EV, lease.... values are all over the place. I was lucky and fully understand that this is likely to never happen again.
