Just over 1 year, 5,000 miles in to owning a BMW I3S of completely mixed driving but mostly local commutes, never worried about having the aircon or heating on been in and out of comfort and sport modes so in no way sympathetic... looked at my trip computer? and saw I had achieved 4.2 miles kw/h.

I was quite pleased by this.

I think the published average for the I3 is 4 (which isn't bad anyway) and I always view those as overly optimistic, so having seen a full range of seasons without trying I have bettered it. To be honest at spring I was at 3.8 and didn't think I would see it get much higher over the summer but pleasant surprise.

Given the relatively lightweight of the I3 compared to other EV's I was wondering what others have seen over the past year I'm particularly interested in things like the Ioniq 5 and Model 3 as I will likely have to step up a size and am interested in published vs real.

I get it's a bit of a stupid question because no one is driving in the same manner or route that I do so apples and oranges, but still if you have it I'd be interested to know.

27k miles in a Tesla Model 3 LR (including a couple of European trips) and the average is 3.97miles kw/h.

I can charge at home and work so no particular ECO driving necessary.

When I first got the i3s and was still getting used to range and usage patterns, it was 4+ miles/kwh with ease. Then we got a charger installed at home, and I stopped caring when I realised I was never going to have range issues. I use a lot less Eco+ mode, and a lot heavier right foot, and I average about 3.3 miles/kwh. My other usage is long journeys with specs cameras, sitting at 70mph, which also averages about 3.3-3.5. If I slow to 65mph that increases to nearer 4, but doesn't help me avoid a stop, so I don't bother.

Two friends with Model 3s get 4+, but I have no idea of their driving style or usage type.

I've a Model 3 Performance, and as it's so comically cheap to run, I generally don't take notice.
I once drove from Sheffield to Lincoln and noticed on arrival that I'd averaged 211w/m.

My friend, who has a Model 3 Long Range can do even better, as you would expect, but I was impressed.
That's 4.74 m/kW

Most of my journeys have been under lets say 50 so that explains why I have a higher average. I do find the Tesla numbers impressive, I guess they must have an efficient drivetrain.

I've done 7000 miles in my BMW i3s in the past 18 months.
My long term average (since I got the car brand new) currently shows 4.3.

Mainly local miles (with a few Motorways), always in Comfort mode and using Air Con when I need it.

2020 Model 3 Performance over 11,000 miles has returned 286 Wh per mile according to the trip counter that’s been running since I bought it. I think this is about 3.5 miles per kWh.

In my Model 3 SR+ (2021) I have averaged exactly 250wh/mile in over 17k miles so 4 miles/kwh.

On a recent roadtrip to Europe with a roofbox, luggage and three passengers the average over 2100 miles it was 271wh/mile or 3.69 miles/kwh. This included several stints on the autobahn. Overall, I was surprised, expecting the roofbox to make more of a dent.

BMW i3 - in the first year I had it (2016) I averaged just over 4 miles per kWh but next two years it dropped to 3.9

Jaguar ipace averaged around 2.4-2.6

Volvo c40 is currently running around 2.8 (but getting worse as the weather cools so over a full year may drop to around 2.6)

Volvo xc90 t8 is about 1.8-2.7 miles per kWh driven like a granny, variability due to weather. With 7.2kWh usable it doesn’t go all that far smile

According to the dash Mrs BigM’s ID3 has averaged 3.9M/KWhr over the last 12,000 miles. Which is a bit odd because whenever I drive it it does about 2.2M/KWhr, hehe so she must drive like a bloody nun for the rest of the time.
I am a bit suspicious of the dash display though I think it’s a bit optimistic and its very hard to calibrate it without faffing about recording how much electricity we put into it at each charge and then recording the mileage.
It does go down quick if you cruise at 100MPH plays havoc with the range, its a real object lesson in drag vs speed.

ETA - Mostly short trips (< 20 miles) with a mixture of town and A-Road driving. 13 months of ownership and has only recently dropped to 2.4 from 2.5 miles/kWh.

We didn't manage much more than 3 miles/kWh in our previous M3P over 2 years and 20k miles of similar usage, so for a much larger/heavier car that still has 400hp and good performance I'm not too disappointed in the etron.

Tesla M3LR just under 4 miles per kWh, with no regard to heating/aircon and I boot it a lot. I always plan ahead and regen though. Motorway is usually a (cough) bit more than 70. 26K miles.
