Released yesterday, and while it doesn't seem a natural replacement for our i3s it could be a sensible if slightly boring option as we want a bit more space and range.

270 mile range, 300bhp, £50kish price. I'm not a big fan of the looks but will be interested to see how it drives and pricing on my company car scheme. Sounds like it is similar size to an xc40 with boot space similar to a 3 series touring.

Just a shame it's on a compromised platform designed for ICE as well.

It would be interesting to see pics in dark grey / black without that blue nonsense.

The 1/2 gen X5 look better than this.

If you imagine it as a roughly gen 1 X5 sized 300bhp electric car for £50k it might have more appeal, shame it doesn’t look better.

And probably about 700kg more weight. No thanks.

Just looked up how these have grown - the E53 original X5 was 4.66m, now the latest X5 is over 4.9m. This X1 is 4.44m. An X3 is over 4.7 now.

It might look nice in black on some E70 214 wheels - which no doubt would kill the range….

Agreed, but don't think there will be one. Focus seems to be on SUV type vehicles. So few options if you want a compact family EV. This is shorter than an ioniq 5, id4, tesla 3 etc. It's seems an id3 is the only option if you want a "golf" sized car, or something like this or the xc40.

Yeah, selection is very poor right now

Expecting to see MG hatchback later part of this year, Ora Cat or something from China might come, Kia EV/Hyundai coming out with smaller EV's in the not too distant future as well as the Megane e tech so at least the options will increase a bit over the next 12 months or so

Hesitated about putting a deposit down, ticks a lot of boxes for us.

Apparently BMW have another four EV models coming out over the next year, any ideas what they are?

Are you serious? One is a toy made out of plastic that has the stability of a unicycle at M-way speeds and a cross wind, kids cannot get out of the back without the front doors opening. The other looks like a practical, family car, with excellent specs and decent pricing.

The i3 is interesting, but most family buys cars that are practical.

Yes the i3 is a worthy enough car but not what the masses wanted. 10 years ago every other car was a grey or silver 320d, a 320d is all you need. Today Tesla model 3s replace it as the super efficient tax saving BIK company car. Finally BMW have caught up with the i4 and now this iX1.

People didn't take to the original A class Mercedes or the Audi A2, BMW should have learnt from that.

A colleague at work has an i3 but all his wheels are shot with curb damage as the tyre offers no protection, the design is rubbish.

He wants to be more careful, we drove ours for 12 months and 15k miles (mostly around town) and not a mark. The wheels on the Model 3 P were far worse.

Ignoring all the other idiots, I think the iX1 is a great looking SUV and the interior is leagues ahead of any of the competition.

The comment about a ‘compromised platform’ really isn’t valid any more though. These BMW models like this and the 4GC/i4 are designed to be ICE and EV from the start, there are no compromises like you got with the iX3.

Ignoring this idiot

It is an ugly blandobox
If soft touch plastic and fake chrome impress you, well that's a matter of taste
Compromises like the piss poor range

Significantly better looking than the generic swathe of equally expensive and compromised VAG boxes.

And considering how many ICE versions of BMW SUV they sell they wont be able to make enough of these.

If I was in the market I'd definitely have this near the top of my list.

If you're not a big fan of the looks, then why not keep looking and settle on something you do like the look of?

Looks alright. How accurate do we think the 270 range will be?
