What's the MG ZS LR like? Build quality, reliability etc?
Discussion
I've been looking at electric cars for a few weeks now and coming very close to buying one.
Originally I was looking at the kia Niro or hyundai kona/ioniq, but this has been a late runner so to speak and statistically it looks the part.
I've been impressed with the glass sun roof and the 250+ miles range.
I am looking to spend around £30k and both the Niro and kona pre-owned go beyond that. The age range I was looking at was maximum 2 years. Ioniq is alot cheaper at 20k-ish but the range listed is 200m and I've read on forums its dropped to around 150 on cold days. I don't think I'll get permission to get a charger installed at the front of the house so most likely it'll be granny charger one night a week whilst it's parked in the back alley which is safe and cameras present. It doesn't block the bin men nor the fire brigade.
So I've seen the other three cars in person and great build quality etc. However with MG changing hands I guess their reputation follows them of having poor build quality and cheap parts.
Anyone got any words of wisdom for me with regards to the car?
Edit-gonna be doing around 250 miles a week for work commute

I've had one since December. Its been alright, but if you search about on the mgevs forums you can find a few common issues, mostly around rapid charging that should be fixed now.
You'll not get the LR Trophy version, with the panoramic roof for under 30k though. Unless you're looking at the shorter range version? That would still work for your milage, it has a more robust battery chemistry by all accounts too.

Thanks for the link. I'll check it after work. The LR I've seen is just a few quid over 30k used 71 plate.
Liverpool player Thiago Alcantara has one, according to the advert I repeatedly see on Facebook despite my attempts to stop it showing up!!
In all seriousness though, I did see one video where a significant amount of rust was coming through after 12 months on the body so I'd say it's worth getting it undersealed properly if you're buying one. I don't know if they've changed the process since the video, it was a year or 2 ago but it'll still be on YouTube I suspect.

MG changing hands?
I've heard nothing of this and cant find any evidence online unless you mean they're moving to a new dealer principal in your area..
We've had our ZS standard range trophy for 7 weeks now and no issues that weren't caused by the supplying dealer. It took a lot of grief and pressing but after 5 weeks the dealer has now resolved the issues it caused.
with the wife driving we're seeing 3.5m/kwh, i get more but she does most of the running.

That surprises me. They haven't delivered any in any numbers yet, it would be unusual for a second hand one to appear so soon. Ex demos have been selling close to retail prices too.The LR I've seen is just a few quid over 30k used 71 plate.
If you've seen one for that id move fast if you want to go for it.

Don't get your hopes up to be able to get one this side of the new year. I have had one on order since November and no date yet, leasing co just said they will advise in September. Was supposed to be here in March.
I'd suggest the OP looks at the SR model, I believe there is immediate availability on those and they have the range required.Chunk cheaper too.

Good point. Still cheap though. Almost worryingly so.
It also says affinity scheme - deal for taxi drivers. Looking at their reviews see the negative one -unhappy customer said:
advertised MG EV's on the affinity scheme at a discounted price but when called in was advised I wouldn't be able to purchase the long range EV on the affinity scheme as they were reserving these for their full paying customers. Found it to be a bit deceiving, they should be up front and just say this on the auto trader ad. Furthermore, they have come up with a policy of reserving the affinity scheme to only customers living within a 30 mile radius, they seem to be the only dealers doing this. Think I will be taking my business elsewhere.

Thats pretty much the price we have locked in for the same spec (Long range trophy in silver) which was ordered early this year on the NHS scheme.
Dealers all told us that the affinity scheme prices are set by MG and the dealers make very little profit on them.
Since then MG have reduced the affinity discount (I've also heard that they've tightened up on access to the affinity pricing) and put up the list prices. Dealers have been selling ex-demo cars for more than list, so I think your chance of that being a genuine offer is pretty low.
If you would be ok with the SR (50kwh) I understand that Chorley MG just got a batch delivered.
