I would joke that pigs are about to fly, but perhaps this is why Tesla have initiated a number of court cases which make it look like they're trying to kill Rivian (though oddly for stealing HR procedures and info to enable Rivian to steel their techies).

With 100,000 orders from Amazon I would guess they are a go but it will be a crowded US market. I would assume that the chicken tax will still apply to foreign built pickups even if EV

There was an interview and piece over the Amazon deal - the vehicles will be more traditional and sensible delivery vans, not the present Rivian offerings - they showed artist impressions, think transit type delivery vans.

Agreed, but it provides critical cashflow to get the rest going.

Yup, but don't forget Amazon are also a major investor in Rivian so it also makes sense for them to put a large order in.

Looks like a fairly standard pickup from a traditional manufacturer with silly lights to me?

Those two statements do not contradict each other.

I thought Ford had invested heavily too?

From what I saw at the earlier concept, there's a lot of natty little details that have been added. Things like the through stowage that sits behind the back seat row on the pickup. Allows a snowboard to fit!

Battery sizes appear huge compared to the proposed price. Can't see how that will make sense.

You are correct. Ford put $500 million in.

Exactly, so much more practical. The Cybertruck was clearly designed for people who rarely use their track as anything more than car. Just look at the walls on either side of the bed for example.

For someone with you level of irrational hate/jealousy for Tesla you are really strong on dragging them into every conversation, even where not relevant at all, aren't you?

TBF it wasn't him that dragged the Tesla shoebox into this conversation

Ah right, it was you.

It only has a 4.5ft bed, it's a lifestyle vehicle not a work truck. Fair enough that's a good market.

Overall looks a great car but they do seem to be taking a while to get things out.

Ford did invest and had plans to use the platform for a Lincoln or something but shelved those, no explanation

I don't get the hype for a vehicle type that very few buy on this side of the pond. The SUV could be a big hit though.
A three or even 4 engined off roader could clean up off road like the model s did on the drag strip. Get the software right and it could be insane. No need for wheel locking, no need for diffs and complicated instructions to send power to a specific set of wheels. Could be epic.
But very few people are really interested in off road capabilities, so it could be a by product.
From the looks of the SUV, that's exactly how I'd imagine an LR EV would look like.

Massive world market, UK and eu tend to prefer panel vans etc but everywhere else the pickup is king. By far the best selling vehicle type here

Yep. even with the huge drop in sales, pickups are doing just fine.
