VW ID3 First Edition - stick or twist
Discussion
I am on the waiting list for the ID First Edition and have been told that I will be invited to my supplying dealer in early 2020 to spec the car. I don’t want it anymore. I can walk now and be refunded my deposit, or do I play the tape to the end and see whether there will be any profit to be had for queue jumpers. In those circumstances do you fully spec the car or try to keep it as cheap as you can, or upspec it to enhance it’s desirability? The spec of the First Edition is not that clear yet.
If anyone is interested in queue jumping or can help advise how best to extract profit from this situation, let me know.
Thanks.

I don't think there is enough pent up demand to flip it for a profit. VW took forever to sell their 'limited' 30k deposits within Europe and just look at this forum as an example of how little interest there is - the last ID3 post was nearly a month ago (25th November).
A year ago, I was sure I'd be getting an ID3 as my next car but as details began to emerge of the interior, range, power, price etc I lost interest and I've seen quite a few people on here saying the same thing. Sounds like you two lost interest too.
The other day I watched this video of the head of sales answering lots of questions. There is so much missing from the launch spec. No OTA updates, no pre-con via app for the lower models, etc

I was on the list for an ID3 and cancelled a couple of months ago and ordered an M3, I have no regrets.
The First Edition has limited range and the launch was so uninspiring. I think later ID’s maybe more competitive but I lost interest in the first edition.
Pricing hasn’t been released but rumours suggest it was going to be expensive.
I would be very surprised if there will be premiums on the early cars.

Interesting how the contributors to this thread are all moving away from the purchase of the ID. On another forum I saw a list of deposit holders with names crossed out.
I am becoming convinced there is no premium value now. May hold on to see what the financial deal actually is. Come this far!

If she's the head of sales and most importantly marketing of the vehicle, you've no chance of selling that at a profit. It's so uncool its unreal.A year ago, I was sure I'd be getting an ID3 as my next car but as details began to emerge of the interior, range, power, price etc I lost interest and I've seen quite a few people on here saying the same thing. She's not the head of sales more the head of the EV movement within VW, the ID will not be a Tesla competitor, that's not the business model they are going for. It's for the masses. Not the PH it can do 0-nobody actually cares, in 4 seconds. It's to move your average golf buyer into EV and if they price it right they'll sell incredibly well.

She is the head of sales. Her official title is 'Head of Sales and Marketing, Product Line e-Mobility' and she was on the stage presenting the ID3 when it was revealed just before the Frankfurt motor show. UK prices haven't been fully explained yet but there's enough info out there (pricing in Ireland, the German pricing mentioned in that video, etc) to know that it's going to be more expensive than first thought. In Euros, roughly 40k, 46k and 50k for the three different specs.
We have had our first EV since June: a superb 64kW Kona EV for over 6k miles now, & Mrs MikeIOW *loves* it! Great spec (heated/cooled seats, heated steering wheel, very good HUD, etc). Shame Hyundai have raised pricing over 40k for the 2020 model.....hence considering our next unit.
Have a deposit on the VW, but suspect we will drop out and hold on another year or two.
The fact they have stalled so long with sharing UK spec (which I suspect may be well short of our current Kona) and price will mean we will almost certainly drop out and take our deposit back. The silence has been deafening!

I thought the iD.3 First Edition was due a 259mile range? 20 below our Kona, but perhaps the same (or a tad more?) than the M3 standard range? Did you pay more for the longer range? That makes the difference....quite a bit!?The First Edition has limited range and the launch was so uninspiring. I think later ID’s maybe more competitive but I lost interest in the first edition.

If the First Edition comes in below “luxury VED”, then it may do okay. 46k euros suggests they are aiming for about £39k, so perhaps not too bad.The fact they have stalled so long with sharing UK spec (which I suspect may be well short of our current Kona) and price will mean we will almost certainly drop out and take our deposit back. Maybe the delay has something to do with waiting for the election result and more Brexit clarity? It's been the same for the Polestar 2, they revealed pricing and lease rates in several European countries a few weeks ago but have postponed revealing the UK pricing until January. mikeiow said:

Not terrible and I'm sure it'll be a well put together car but initially they were talking about pricing being 'comparable to a Golf diesel' so that initial forecast has gone out of the window. Actually, the other day VW revealed some infographics to show they don't expect parity for a few more years yet (and they're including cost of ownership in their data). mids said:

I remember the 'same price as diesel Golf' promise, VAG not keeping to their promises who would have thought ]

For me I need a basic spec with the big battery. No fancy tech, wheels, stereo etc. for me. Base box or something in the middle of the boot floor is ridiculous, I need to carry stuff!

You do realise that Golf prices are much much more than the UK?When you could get a GTD it was 40K Euros in Ireland!

Evidently you are clearly not a petrol head in any way you desire the cheapest white goods personal travel option for mA to B. Or if you were not going electric you’d be a Dacia Sandero or Renault Modus type customer. That’s ok - not cool not petrolhead big someone has to buy them. https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/nissan...

Actually it was same price as a GTD
Source? I don't remember ever seeing that.A 30 second google will show you plenty of articles referencing prices expected to be the same as a regular diesel golf and UK figures of around £26k being estimated which is way less than what it now looks like it's actually going to cost when it launches here.
