Assume the systems are the same for EV cars, but posted in here as not entirely sure.

I have my E-tron arriving in around a month and a requirement of my (and seemingly most) of the insurers is that the vehicle must be fitted with a tracker.

Can anyone recommend a system. The one I had in the previous car (Porsche 997) meant I had to carry around a little fob everywhere and if I drove the car without it I would get a call. It was a bit of a pain if I'm honest, and would hope tech has moved on from that.

Welcome anyones thoughts, advise.

The first step is to ask your insurance company whether it needs to be a Thatcham approved tracker. That narrows it down a bit.

https://www.audi.co.uk/about-audi/mobile-apps.html

This details what the Audi app for the e-tron does. As it allows you to find the car from the phone,

"Plan your routes, including the walking route to the vehicle"

I assume that would be considered a tracker.

I asked about the E-tron's basic ability to 'track' itself but seemingly this is not acceptable to the insurers, so need to look at a stand alone system.

Have you considered changing insurer? I too have never been required to install a stand alone tracker.

I had to have a tracker fitted to my Monaro but this was in 2005!

I paid £300 for lifetime ownership and indeed do still have the car. What I got for the £300 other than some paperwork I don't know.

Touch wood its never been attacked.

I had to have a tracker system on my 911.

The insurance company insisted on it, having to see a current subscription certificate every year though it was insured by Porsche Insurance Services (Marsh) and they knew the Cobra system was a standard Porsche fitment.

I always assumed a bit of collusion between Porsche, Cobra and the insurer.

Lots of cars are now trackable by phone apps, whatever use they actually are. The Cobra system raised an alarm if the car moved without the fob in it. If ever I forgot to take it, I would get a call within a few minutes of setting off and the car could be remotely disabled.

Are there any mobile phone apps that do that?

That's interesting as a concensus seemed to be Tesla etc. can't have a 'disable my car' button as it would be dangerous and illegal in the UK.
