my car shows it is charging at 8kW but i thought that the 240v 32a chargers where 7kW

display bug ?

I don't know the answer to your question, but UK mains voltage isn't actually 240; it's 216 to 253 volts. 32 amps at 253 volts would be 8.1kw so it's certainly not impossible to draw 8kw from a 32amp UK circuit (although it's marginal).

I don't know if the chargers are current or power limited. I'm sure someone will. smile

Yep, it'll likely be 7.something (how big a something depending on your voltage at the time) and the Tesla display rounds it up.

We often see 245volts at home, the car rounds up to 8KW.

On public Type 2 chargers it can be as low as 6Kw.

Our voltage seams to sit just under 240v

Using a 10m 32a cable has made no difference, still rounding up to 8kW

240v * 32a = 7,680w

The advantage of a high voltage is you don't get billed for the extra bit above 230v (UK nominal voltage) as the meters work on current so its the gift that keeps giving if you have high voltage
