Anyone know anything about Scottish Power's EV Green tariff? Finding out the details and conditions from their website is riddle akin to finding the Philosopher's Stone.

I looked at them December last year. The Green fixed to December 2020 tariffs I found were;

Economy 7
daily charge 46.03p,
off peak 7.78p/kwh
peak 16.74p/kwh

Normal
daily charge 46.03p
13.72p/kwh

Prices may change depending where you live. I'm in the Thames Valley.

I went with Octopus as they were far cheaper, about £300 per year, for my usage,

I think it's called Green-EV January 2021. It is likely to be different from Economy 7 but Scottish Power are very difficult to evaluate, it's almost as if they don't want you to know about it.

I'm on SP's Online Fixed Price September 2020 currently and the daily standing rate is 31.31p for electricity and again for gas. Someone on the SpeakEV forum said he had been quoted a set of figures on the phone but someone else got different figures. His were 15.281p/kWh daytime, and 4.736 12 midnight til 05:00hrs and a daily charge of 19.81p. I'm sceptical though so I'll phone them next week.

I am switching to Octopus Energy next month, sadly no EV though, so only daily rates apply!

Have they withdrawn their Go tariff for new users?

Just a minor caution: this is only if you get (or have) a SMETS meter.
We moved to them earlier in the year (they also have/had a decent deal on a Zappi-2 charger!).....but they still cannot offer us a SMETS2 meter (& I refuse to have a SMETS1). So we are still on their normal one, may look at other regular economy7 tariffs later.

FYI, if you want to move to Octopus, feel free to use https://share.octopus.energy/loved-hawk-16 & share £100: I will happily donate half mine to a charity of your choice smile

Thanks for the heads up on the Octopus tariff - going to give it a go.

The Tesla lets you set a charging time so should be perfect for this.

Last time I looked at time based tariffs they were stupidly punitive peak-hours but this is only fractionally more than my current provider for the other 20 hours of the day.

Cheers,

Phil

I do not have a smart meter of any sort. However I may yet have one if it facilitates cheap EV charging. Thanks for the offer, I'll look again as things progress. My existing Scottish Power tariff has escape penalties that I have to consider.

I'm on octopus. They were one of the cheapest options that wasn't on the brink of bankruptcy...

So it is starting to happen. The sale of EV's has not only been pushed on the ecological basis (but that's another story) but also by the "MPG" argument. Here in France a new chain of recharging stations is springing up, and the cost of the electricity is so high that the "MPG" factor is now worse than ICE. Are we being conned? It reminds me of printers - you buy the printer for virtually nothing and pay through the nose for the cartridges.

Public charging is, IMO, never going to be a cheap option.

If you're talking Ionity, the headline rate is for ad-hoc use without going through one of their partners. All the manufacturers funding the consortium (VAG, Porsche, BMW, Ford, etc) will have their own schemes at lower rates, and probably the likes of Newmotion will too.

It's a premium level offering though - the fastest possible charging (for cars that can manage it), lots of chargers in one place and along the key routes. Same reason motorway petrol is more expensive. No-one would use that as their only source of electricity.

Corri-door are the established player in France for rapid charging and are cheaper, and there's free or cheap slower charging posts all over the place in France. Or, as most do, you just plug in at home and pay the same as you would for the rest of your electricity.

Not really, I've done 33K miles in our current EV. The car tells me I've used 14,258kWh of home electricity in that time, home electricity costs me 8p per kWh (including VAT averaged out over last 2 years), that puts the cost per mile of charging 3.45p per mile, add in 10% extra for charger losses and we are at 3.8p per mile in fuel costs. That's for a car the size of and performance of a SQ7, not sure how far you can go in a SQ7 for 3.8p, am pretty sure its not even half a mile.

I have also used 1000kWh of public charging in that time, but the cost of that has been £0, and accounts for just 6% of total refuelling usage.

Thanks for the information. This world seems to be getting more and more complicated (but probably it is just me) and one hears this and then the other. and one doesn't know what to believe. Good that someone can put me right!

We have took delivery of a Jaguar Ipace just before Christmas. Have been researching local charges around Norwich, where we live. Surprised at the complexity of using chargers out and about. Have a few cards which access these and this allows free top ups. We are lucky in Norwich as most of our car parks have free top up 7Kw chargers for free, just pay the car park charge.
At home we have a Pod Point unit which works well with the Ipace. We have gone over to the Octopus Go, EV tariff. From 00.30am to 04.30am only 5p a Kw. Keeping the Ipace charged is now quite painless. We are loving the the car and the EV experience.

If anyone wants to share the £100 offer to go over to Octopus Go then follow the link.

Robert from fully charged has just had a good rant about Ionity.
