Here's a thought...

Is the Tesla Model 3 the Mini of the 21st century?

Why I think it may be...

- Based on one man's vision

- Built in response to a fuel crisis

- Great packaging made possible by an innovative drivetrain

- Aimed at the mass market

- Minimalist interior

- Centrally mounted instrument panel

- Looks like a hatchback but has a boot

Any other similarities? Will it be seen as being as big a game-changer as the original Mini?

He is correct on all 3 for the mini.

How does the model 3 stack up on those criteria?

Is it profitable?
Build quality is not great looking at shut lines and trim.
How easy are they repared after a crash?

Build quality is fine now, at the start it wasnt but you know, things change.

Tesla make around 19% profit on each car but they spend more on building up a huge capital intensive business, who knew?

As for crashing yeah there might be parts supply issues, least they crash less than others (see euro ncap tests... and teslas crash data)

as for the mini (original) my brother had one of the last (he is a JLR designer) and was gluing bits back on the day after collection biggrin

Oh really? 4-5k a year in fuel and at least a grand in servicing plus other taxes here and 40k is generous to the BMW

What fuel crisis?

Mass market? The Brand new Corvette is cheaper than some M3s in the states.

The Mini was a compact city car that you didn't your own driveway to fill up with juice. The Three isn't.

The Tesla Pacer.

America's laughable attempt at doing a compact European along the lines of the
Golf .

The modern Mirth Mobile.

And yep all the usual tesla/ev haters are in here already with absolutely no bases for their bullst, sales are showing the ICE engine cars are a dead end.

in so much as i think this is the starting point of the switch over from ICE to EV cars, there still going to sell bucket loads of ICE cars for the next 2-5 years

Oh for sure, even the 10 year outlook looks like ~30 million evs a year but no one will be buying ICE by then and the model 3 is a watershed car

Why not stop acting like a big baby, and point out the reasons you do believe the Model 3 is the new Mini. Because I'm not convinced.

Sales of ICE cars certainly are far less dead than the EV market.
