I'm just getting some free CCS at Grantham and am surprised to see so many Tesla charge points, like 20 or so. It's great to see but is a first for me. Are Tesla spots always like this?

All services could do with this kind of setup for regular EV's to be honest. There's only one CCS and two chademo.

They vary in size, but most seem to be around 8 or 10. Think there's a couple of 32s about now though.

Yes Tesla have nailed en route charging. Ecotricity have a monopoly at motorway service stations, They have not installed any rapid chargers in 3 1/2 years despite many promises. Rather than being the solution to en roite charging Electric Highway really are the problem blocking anyone else installing chargers. Ecotricity took Tesla to court and the settlement was secret. But it's generally thought Tesla paid Ecotricity a bung and Tesla are allowed to install at some MSA's. Pretty poor really.

Yeah they try to ramp them up with demand, this is why all these other auto companies need to get their act together... or just pay Tesla to join their charging network which Tesla have said they can do.

I will be surprised if ecotricity maintains it's monopoly position. It is clearly under capitalised to take advantage of that situation and there are too many other interested players to let it lie. We have already seen the government move on open payment mechanisms and I expect it won't take much lobbying before a way is found to nudge ecotricity to sort itself out, one way or another.

Tesla adopt the massive and relatively infrequent approach but that policy is also giving them issues as the ability to set up a new location is incredibly hard due to power supply issues, as a result they’ve installed just 1 site in the last year in the uk despite promises to double the network to accommodate the M3 volume.

It’s time they might need to think about little and often as instavolt and the rest seem to be able to do 2 stall set ups all over the place.

Thanks for the info guys.

It's nice to have free charging but think this is likely due to Ecotricity being a bit crap with maintenance.

I hope BP taking over Polar will increase numbers at service stations as Ecotricity are a bit of a ripoff. They're still cheaper than petrol but is ridiculous really.

It was impressive seeing all those chargers lined up though. A glimpse of the future perhaps.
